Abstract Purpose The purpose of this study is to report the safety and efficacy pars plana glaucoma drainage devices with vitrectomy using one sclerotomy sites for tube placement in patients refractory glaucoma. Methods Retrospective case series 28 eyes who underwent combined device between November 2016 September 2019 at Massachusetts Eye Ear. Main outcome measures were intraocular pressure (I...

The results of trabeculectomy and sclerectomy procedures for open-angle glaucoma in African Negroes are compared. Trabeculectomy produced fewer long-term complications, but otherwise there was little difference in their results. Excision of Tenon's capsule and the use of local corticosteroids postoperatively are probably significant in preventing failure of aqueous drainage from subconjunctival...

Trabeculectomy is the most commonly used surgical procedure for managing medically uncontrolled glaucoma. It reduces intraocular pressure (IOP) by creating an artificial drainage pathway of the aqueous humor from the anterior chamber to the subconjunctival space, forming a filtering bleb. Aqueous humor in the subconjunctival space may then exit by multiple pathways including transconjunctival f...

Epithelial ingrowth of the bleb cavity, a true Tenon cyst, is a rare complication of a glaucoma drainage implant. Previous cases have been associated with persistent bleb leak, and most have occurred in eyes with prior extraocular surgery. We describe a case of a true Tenon cyst causing strabismus and an elevated intraocular pressure that was successfully treated by surgical revision.

Abnormally high resistance to aqueous humor drainage via the trabecular meshwork and Schlemm's canal is highly correlated with the development of primary open-angle glaucoma. Contractility of the actomyosin system in the trabecular cells or inner wall endothelium of Schlemm's canal is an important factor in the regulation of outflow resistance. Cytoskeletal agents, affecting F-actin integrity o...

PURPOSE To compare the surgical outcomes of the two different methods used for Ahmed Glaucoma Valve (AGV) implantation between the donor scleral graft method and the partial-thickness scleral flap method. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed medical records of 28 eyes of 26 patients diagnosed as neovascular glaucoma followed by AGV implantation. Based on the surgical method, the included eyes ...

Purpose: To determine the safety and efficacy of collagen matrix as a patch graft in glaucoma drainage surgery. Collagen matrix grafts may be advantageous because they do not need to be harvested from human donors. Methods: An institutional, retrospective review of 43 patients with at least 12 months follow-up status post-glaucoma drainage implant surgery were evaluated for signs of tube erosio...

Purpose To report the early results of suprachoroidal silicone implant surgery in intractable glaucoma. Materials and methods A modified silicone implant with no valve was implanted into the suprachoroidal space of 15 eyes with intractable glaucoma. Results The mean age of the patients was 53.0 ± 24.5 (range 7–85) years, the mean follow-up time was 17.1 ± 4.8 (range 10–28) months, and the mean ...

Histologic, experimental, and theoretical studies of the aqueous outflow pathways point toward the juxtacanalicular region and inner wall of Schlemm's canal as the likely site of aqueous outflow resistance in the normal eye. At least 50% of the aqueous outflow resistance in the normal eye and the bulk of the pathologically increased resistance in the glaucomatous eye resides in the trabecular m...
