We give a characterization of vertex-monotone properties with sharp thresholds in a Poisson random geometric graph or hypergraph. As an application we show that a geometric model of random k-SAT exhibits a sharp threshold for satisfiability.

A geometric spanner with vertex set P IRD is a sparse approximation of the complete Euclidean graph determined by P. We introduce the notion of partitioned neighborhood graphs (PNGs), unifying and generalizing most constructions of spanners treated in literature. Two important parameters characterizing their properties are the outdegree k 2 IN and the stretch factor f > 1 describing the ‘qualit...

In this paper, we introduce and study a new implicit representation of parametric curves and parametric surfaces . We show how these representations which we will call the matrix implied, establish a bridge between geometry and linear algebra, thus opening the possibility of a more robust digital processing. The contribution of this approach is discussed and illustrated on important issues of g...

The developable surface is an important surface in computer aided design, geometric modeling and industrial manufactory. It is often given in the standard parametric form, but it can also be in the implicit form which is commonly used in algebraic geometry. Not all algebraic developable surfaces have rational parametrizations. In this paper, we focus on the rational developable surfaces. For a ...

A way of measuring the in situ high temperature creep deformation of a micro-structure with a metal film wire on a flexible membrane is developed. The creep deformation measurement of a micro-structure with a Karma alloy wire on a polyimide membrane is used as an application. High temperature gratings were fabricated directly on the surfaces of two Karma alloy wires using the focused ion beam m...

We discuss recent work based on multiscale geometric analysis for the study of large data sets that lie in high-dimensional spaces but have low-dimensional structure. We present three applications: the first one to the estimation of intrinsic dimension of sampled manifolds, the second one to the construction of multiscale dictionaries, called geometric wavelets, for the analysis of point clouds...

In this paper, we study the vertex pursuit game of Cops and Robbers, in which cops try to capture a robber on the vertices of a graph. The minimum number of cops required to win on a given graph G is called the cop number of G. We focus on G(n, r, p), a percolated random geometric graph in which n vertices are chosen uniformly at random and independently from [0, 1]. Two vertices are adjacent w...

Hamiltonian Lie-Poisson structures of the three-wave equations associated with the Lie algebras 5u(3) and 5u(2, 1) are derived and shown to be compatible. Poisson reduction is performed using the method of invariants and geometric phases associated with the reconstruction are calculated. These results can be applied to applications of nonlinear-waves in, for instance, nonlinear optics. Some of ...

We introduce new Bézier-like formulas with quaternionic weights for rational curves and surfaces in Euclidean 3-space. They are useful for representation of Möbius invariant geometric objects. Any Bézier curves and surfaces on 2-spheres can be converted to the quaternionic Bézier (QB) form of twice lower degree. Our focus is on bilinear QB-surfaces: we derive their implicitization formula and s...
