BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The cerebral volume of T2-hyperintense white matter (HWM) is an important neuroimaging marker of cerebral integrity. Pathophysiology studies identified that subcortical and ependymal HWM are produced by 2 different mechanisms but shared a common risk factor: high arterial pulse pressure. Recent studies have demonstrated high heritability of the whole-brain HMW volume and ...

The basis of susceptibility to rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is complex, comprising genetic and environmental susceptibility factors. We have reviewed the available approaches to the investigation of the genetic basis of complex diseases and how these are being applied to RA. Affected-sibling-pair methods for nonparametric linkage analysis, linkage-disequilibrium-based approaches, transmission dise...

Genetic diversity of 45 wheat varietions were studied using AFLP markers. From 11 primer combinations of PstI and Mse1for obtaining AFLP polymorphism, six primer combinations (P-CGA/M-CTA, P-ATG/M-CTG, P-ATG/M-CAT, P-AGT/M-CTA, P-AGT/M-CAG and P-ATG/M-CAG) produced polymorphic bands. Totally, 328 bands be produced that 207 bands (63.10%) were polymorphic, which showing high polymorphism among g...

For both model-free and model-based linkage analysis the S.A.G.E. (Statistical Analysis for Genetic Epidemiology) program package has some unique capabilities in analyzing both continuous traits and binary traits with variable age of onset. Here we highlight model-based linkage analysis of a quantitative trait (plasma dopamine β hydroxylase) that is known to be largely determined by monogenic i...

The Pacific white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei is the dominant crustacean species in global seafood mariculture. Understanding the genome and genetic architecture is useful for deciphering complex traits and accelerating the breeding program in shrimp. In this study, a genome survey was conducted and a high-density linkage map was constructed using a next-generation sequencing approach. The geno...

BACKGROUND Genetic susceptibility for cancer can differ substantially among families. We use trait-related covariates to identify a genetically homogeneous subset of families with the best evidence for linkage in the presence of heterogeneity. METHODS We performed a genome-wide linkage screen in 93 families. Samples and data were collected by the familial lung cancer recruitment sites of the ...

many qtls related to agronomic triats have been registered in soybean (glycine max) by different research groups during the last decade. due to the interaction effects of qtls, environmental and genetic backgrounds on the emergence of qtls and also to confirm the previous results as well as to identify new qtls, further studies are still required. in order to map qtl which control some agronomi...

In the present study an extensive amount of data, comprising more than 30,000 offspring in total, was analyzed to evaluate the influence of age and sex on the recombination frequency in the K-PGD segment of the equine linkage group (LG) I and the influence of age, breed and sex on recombination in the ALES segment of LG 11. A highly significant sex difference is reported for both segments. Male...

Genetic linkage is established by the use of common sires across herds. To compare animals from different environments, herds must have some performance recorded progeny from common animals (typically common sires), which are used to bench mark one herd against another. Genetic linkage is also important within a herd, to compare animals born in different years and raised in different contempora...

A preliminary genetic analysis of a number of genetic variants of Volvox carteri f. nagariensis is presented. Techniques are outlined for mutagenesis of Volvox, isolation of mutants and routine genetic analysis. All of the mutants show simple Mendelian segregation patterns and have been tentatively placed in 14 linkage groups.
