We investigate the critical behavior of the two-dimensional randomly driven lattice gas, in which particles are driven along one of the lattice axes by an infinite external field with randomly changing sign. A finite-size scaling (FSS) analysis provides novel evidences that this model is not in the same universality class as the driven lattice gas with a constant drive (DLG), contrarily to what...

An ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna with a novel multilayer frequency selective surface (FSS) reflector is presented. A significant enhancement in the gain has been achieved in a low profile design while maintaining the excellent impedance bandwidth of the UWB antenna. The average peak gain of the antenna has been increased from 4 dBi to 9.3 dBi as a consequence of the use of the FSS reflector. Mor...

We present a status report on the ongoing analysis of the 3D Ising model with nearest-neighbor interactions using the Monte Carlo Renormalization Group (MCRG) and finite size scaling (FSS) methods on 64, 128, and 256 simple cubic lattices. Our MCRG estimates are K nn = 0.221655(1)(1) and ν = 0.625(1). The FSS results for K are consistent with those from MCRG but the value of ν is not. Our best ...

In a simple scalable audio coding scheme, there are usually two layers – a base layer and an enhancement layer. This paper presents a novel scheme with AMR-WB as base layer and AAC as enhancement layer. To optimally code the signal in the enhancement layer a frequency selective switch (FSS) control algorithm is described. The FSS determines whether the original signal or the residual of the ori...

The distinction between primary lung adenocarcinoma and metastatic breast carcinoma in patients with a history of breast cancer is difficult by frozen section (FS) analysis. Our experience with 129 FSs from 121 patients with a pulmonary nodule and a history of breast cancer was reviewed. The pretest odds ratio of primary pulmonary carcinoma/metastatic breast carcinoma was 2.6. The incidence of ...

The finite-size scaling (FSS) theory for continuous phase transitions has been useful in determining the critical behavior from the size-dependent behaviors of thermodynamic quantities. When the phase transition is discontinuous, however, FSS approach has not been well established yet. Here, we develop a FSS theory for the explosive percolation transition arising in the Erdős and Rényi model un...

Microwave oven generates a harmful electromagnetic wave at 2.45GHz of 1000Watts. The generated microwave is confined within the cavity of the oven for efficient heating and secured operation. To prevent microwave leakage through the front glass door, a special construction of Faraday Cage is involved. In this paper, Faraday Cage is replaced with Transparent Frequency Selective Surface Front Doo...

OBJECTIVE We investigated the psychometric properties of the Flinn Performance Screening Tool (FPST) for people referred with symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). METHOD An occupational therapist collected data from 46 participants who completed the Functional Status Scale (FSS) and FPST after the participants' nerve conduction velocity study to test convergent and contrasted-group valid...

During metastasis, cancer cells enter the circulation in order to gain access to distant tissues, but how this fluid microenvironment influences cancer cell biology is poorly understood. A longstanding view is that circulating cancer cells derived from solid tissues may be susceptible to damage from hemodynamic shear forces, contributing to metastatic inefficiency. Here we report that compared ...

In this paper, we consider the problem of resource allocation in the context of cognitive Satellite Communications (SatCom). In particular, we focus on the cognitive downlink access by Geostationary (GEO) Fixed Satellite Service (FSS) terminals in the band 17.7-19.7 GHz, where the incumbent users are Fixed-Service (FS) microwave links. Assuming a multiple Low Noise Block Converter (LNB) satelli...
