This paper focuses on the use of graphical display of multidimensional data using an improved version of parallel coordinates. It shows how visualization can be used effectively for exploratory data analysis and describes WinViz, a tool that realizes it.
Motivated by recent developments in numerical Lie group integrators, we introduce a family of local coordinates on Lie groups denoted generalized polar coordinates. Fast algorithms are derived for the computation of the coordinate maps, their tangent maps and the inverse tangent maps. In particular we discuss algorithms for all the classical matrix Lie groups and optimal complexity integrators ...
Implementations of interactive parallel coordinate plots in geographic visualization systems are presented. The plots represent spatial and spatio-temporal data, and are linked to maps and scatterplots. The interactive features of the parallel coordinate representations are discussed, with particular emphasis on their ability to facilitate geographic data exploration and understanding. The pape...
In this paper we present angular brushing for parallel coordinates (PC) as a new approach to highlighting rational data-properties, i.e., features which – in a non-separable way – depend on two data dimensions. We also demonstrate smooth brushing as an intuitive tool for specifying nonbinary degree-of-interest functions (for focus+context visualization). We also briefly describe our implementat...
In this paper we will discuss local coordinates canonically corresponding to a Kähler metric. We will also discuss the C ∞ convergence of Bergman metrics following Tian's result on C 2 convergence of Bergman metrics. At the end we present an interesting characterization of ample line bundle that could be useful in arithmetic geometry.
This paper introduces Temporal Density Parallel Coordinates (TDPC) and Depth Cue Parallel Coordinates (DCPC) which extend the standard 2D parallel coordinates technique to capture time-varying dynamics. The proposed techniques can be used to analyse temporal positions of data items as well as temporal positions of changes occurring using 2D displays. To represent temporal changes, polygons (ins...
(1.1) M' is complete and its sectional curvatures are non-positive. In terms of local coordinates x = (x, . . . , x) on M and y = (y, . . . , y) on M', let the respective Riemann elements of arc-length be ds = gij dx dx\ ds' = g'a$ dy a dy& and r^-fc, T'Vy be the corresponding Christoffel symbols. When there is no danger of confusion, x (or y) will represent a point of M (or M') or its coordina...
Parallel coordinates is a well-known technique used for visualization of multivariate data. When the size of the data sets increases the parallel coordinates display results in an image far too cluttered to perceive any structure. We tackle this problem by constructing high-precision textures to represent the data. By using transfer functions that operate on the high-precision textures, it is p...
i) 8 (p;Xp) 2 TM , as p 2M ) there exists (U ; ) 2 S such that p 2 U ; i.e. (p;Xp) 2 TU , and we have TU = 1 (R) 2 . ii) If we de ne F : TpM ! R by F (Xp) = (Xp(x); Xp(x); :::::; Xp(x)) where x; x; ::::; x are local coordinates on (U ; ), then clearly F is an isomorphism, so (p; Xp) = ( (p); F ( Xp)); and 1 = ( 1 ; F 1 ). Now take 1 (U); 1 (V ) 2 and suppose (p; Xp) 2 1 (U)\ 1 (V ...
One of the fundamental tasks for analytic activity is retrieving (i.e., reading) the value of a particular quantity in an information visualization. However, few previous studies have compared user performance in such value retrieval tasks for different visualizations. We present an experimental comparison of user performance (time and error distance) across four multivariate data visualization...
