When we look at a nearby galaxy, we see a mixture of foreground stars and bona fide extragalactic stars. I will describe what we need to do to get meaningful statistics on the massive star populations across the H-R diagram. Such a census provides the means of a very powerful test of massive star evolutionary theory.

Pantoea is comprised of a broad spectrum of species, including plant pathogens. Here, we provide an annotated genome sequence of Pantoea sp. strain Sc 1, which was isolated from a diseased cotton boll. This research provides the first genome sequence of a bona fide Pantoea sp. insect-vectored cotton pathogen.

Zhang et al suggested that in the crystal structure of a polycomb repressive complex 2 from Chaetomium thermophilum (ctPRC2), a flexible linker region, but not the H3K27M cancer mutant peptide, better fits the electron density. Based on our new data, we agree with this alternative interpretation and provide the crystal structure of ctPRC2 bound to a bona fide H3K27M sequence.

Sequencing the genome of Janthinobacterium sp. RA13 from Lake Washington sediment is announced. From the genome content, a versatile life-style is predicted, but not bona fide methylotrophy. With the availability of its genomic sequence, Janthinobacterium sp. RA13 presents a prospective model for studying microbial communities in lake sediments.
