In the present study, an in vitro brain cell culture was developed from neural cells of Persian sturgeon (Acipenser persicus). The tissue samples collected from the anterior, middle and posterior regions of the brain were cultivated separately in DMEM/F12 medium supplemented with 15% fetal bovine serum, antibiotic and antimycotic. The medium was refreshed every 3 days. The cells became confluen...

etal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is being used increasingly for confirmation and further characterization of brain abnormalities detected on routine prenatal sonography. It offers improved contrast resolution and direct visualization of both sides of the developing brain and is not susceptible to the limitations of sonography such as fetal position and amniotic fluid volume. With fetal MRI...

OBJECTIVE The objective of the study was to determine the feasibility of detecting fetal brain lactate, a marker of fetal metabolic acidemia, using a noninvasive technique, proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy ((1)H MRS), in intrauterine growth-restricted (IUGR) fetuses. STUDY DESIGN In vivo human fetal brain lactate detection was determined by (1)H MRS in 5 fetuses with IUGR. Oxygenation a...

We report on the detection of discordant inclusions in the brain of a 25-week female fetus with a very rare lysosomal storage disease, namely, Sly disease (mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) type VII), presenting with nonimmune hydrops fetalis. Besides vacuolated neurons, we found abundant deposition of polyglucosan bodies (PGBs) in the developing brain of this fetus in whom MPS-VII was corroborated b...

Background Congenital heart disease (CHD) is associated with brain dysmaturation, increased risk of perioperative white matter (WM) injury and neurodevelopmental delay (1). Fetal Doppler studies have shown altered cerebrovascular flow dynamics in CHD, suggesting ‘brain-sparing physiology’. We sought to determine whether postnatal cerebral WM microstructural abnormality relates to abnormal fetal...

Auditory evoked responses between right- and left-hemispheric derivations were investigated in 53 recordings from fetuses in the third trimester using fetal magnetoencephalography (fMEG). The side-different latency development of the component P2pm suggests an earlier maturation of certain right than homologous left hemispheric brain areas during fetal brain development.

OBJECTIVE To study whether maternal cigarette smoking during pregnancy is associated with alterations in the growth of fetal lungs, kidneys, liver, brain, and placenta. DESIGN A case-control study, with operators performing the image analysis blinded. SETTING Study performed on a research-dedicated magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner (1.5 T) with participants recruited from a large tea...

conclusions: normothermia and hemodynamic stability are the most important factors which help to reduce fetal loss during open heart surgery in pregnancy. the fetus has an auto-regulation which comes into play when the mother is experiencing shock. objectives: the aim of this study was to report our experience with urgent cardiopulmonary bypass carried out in early pregnancy and to analyze fact...

neospora caninum, an apicomplexan protozoan, is regarded as a major cause of abortion and stillbirth in cattle in countries world-wide. the ability to detection n.caninum in tissue samples can be a useful detection diagnostic tool for use in the study of the pathogenicity, immunoprophylaxis, and treatment of neospora infection. however, molecular biology is one of the most sensitive tools for d...
