The structures of three dinuclear zinc-amido complexes, involved in the very first step preparation zinc oxide nanoparticles via an organometallic route, have been investigated by density functional theory computational studies. various zinc–nitrogen and zinc–cyclohexyl bonds are finely characterized using quantum atoms molecules electron localization function (ELF) topological analyses. result...

Localization is a well-known wave phenomenon that significantly impedes transport, as uncovered by pioneering work of Anderson. The localization thermal phonons based on the phonon nature widely represented in disordered atomic systems. Compared with electron and photon localization, observations are much rarer, owning to broadband transport. In this Perspective, we summarize experimental theor...

Classification and detection of biological structures in Electron Micrographs (EM) is a relatively new large scale image analysis problem. The primary challenges are in modeling diverse visual characteristics and development of scalable techniques. In this paper we propose novel methods for synapse detection and localization, an important problem in connectomics. We first propose an attribute b...

A study is made of electron tunneling in semiconductor heterostructures having a complex dispersion law. A generalized Fabry–Perot approach is used to describe tunneling across the barrier. Mixing of electron states at the heterojunctions is responsible for the asymmetric resonant structure of the transmission which is characterized by a resonance–antiresonance pair. The resonance corresponds t...

The dynamics of two-dimensional small-polaron formation at ultrathin alkane layers on a silver(111) surface have been studied with femtosecond time- and angle-resolved two-photon photoemission spectroscopy. Optical excitation creates interfacial electrons in quasi-free states for motion parallel to the interface. These initially delocalized electrons self-trap as small polarons in a localized s...

We study the problem of an electron in two dimensions in the presence of a magnetic vortex with a step-like profile. Dependending on the values of the effective mass and gyromagnetic factor of the electron, it may be trapped by the vortex. The bound state spectrum is obtained numerically, and some limiting cases are treated analytically.

The complexes trans-[PtBr2(NCNR2)2] (R2 = Me21, (CH2)52) were cocrystallized with 1,1,2,2-tetrabromoethane (tbe) in CH2Cl2 forming solvates 1·tbe and 2·tbe, respectively. In both solvates, tbe involved halogen bonding, viz. the C–Br···Br–Pt interactions, detected by single-crystal X-ray diffractions experiments. Appropriate density functional theory calculations (M06/def2-TZVP) performed for is...
