A 10-year-old boy who sustained a fracture through a cyst in the ulna later developed a pseudarthrosis. During 13 years' follow-up the characteristic short bowed forearm developed but, instead of the more usual spontaneous dislocation of the head of the radius, the patient also developed the previously unreported complication of osteoarthritis of the elbow.
We report on 2 patients with congenital insensitivity to pain and anhydrosis. The first one was a 7-month-old boy who presented with non-traumatic, haematogenous septic dislocation of the right elbow with physeal separation of the distal humerus. The second one was a 3-year-old girl suspected to have Job syndrome with an altered immunological profile.
The authors describe a relatively rare avulsion injury of the brachial artery complicating elbow dislocation in a young man, together with the relevant diagnostics and treatment. In the discussion, they deal with the symptomatology of artery injuries and available examination methods, suggesting an appropriate treatment algorithm.
Thirty consecutive patients who had dis-location of the elbow without concomitant fracture andwho were sixteen years old or more were examined undergeneral anesthesia for stability of the joint at an averageof four days after the injury. All of the elbows showedmedial and sixteen showed both medial and lateral in-stabihity The patients were then randomly assigned tou...
We describe a case of a Monteggia fracture dislocation and an ipsilateral lateral humeral condyle fracture in a 3-year-old child. This is a rare combination of injuries with no previously reported cases in the literature. This case emphasises that when a fracture is detected around an elbow there should be a high index of suspicion for other injuries in the region.
Lateral condyle fracture with concomitant postero-medial elbow dislocation in a child: a case report
Simultaneous combination of fracture of the lateral condyle and postero-medial elbow dislocation is a rare event and limited to few reports or case series in the literature. Rarity of the injury also necessitates judicious diagnosis and appropriate management to ensure optimal functional outcome. Various authors have reported about the condition including the management which mostly includes su...
The purpose of the study was to compare the recurrence rate of arthroscopic Bankart repair with suture anchors in collision vs noncollision athletes. Sixty-four patients who underwent arthroscopic shoulder stabilization using suture anchors for recurrent anterior dislocation were identified. Forty-three patients (22 collision and 21 noncollision) were evaluated at a minimum 24-month follow-up. ...
Chronic dislocation of the elbow is an exceedingly disabling condition associated with severe instability, limitation of elbow function and significant pain. Due to the potentially conflicting goals of restoring elbow stability and regaining a satisfactory arc of motion, successful treatment is a challenge for the experienced trauma surgeon. We report our treatment strategy in three patients su...
OBJECTIVE To determine whether training on shoulder and elbow surgery influences the orthopedist surgeons' preferred technique to address acute acromioclavicular joint dislocation (ACD). METHODS A survey was conducted with shoulder and elbow specialists and general orthopedists on their preferred technique to address acute ACD. RESULTS Thirty specialists and forty-five general orthopedists ...
After dislocation of the elbow with avulsion of the medial epicondyle, the management of the latter is controversial. Of 28 children followed up after initial closed reduction of the elbow, 19 had a satisfactory closed reduction of the epicondyle and were treated in plaster. At follow-up, 11 children had a normal elbow and eight had lost an average of 15 degrees of flexion. Nine children had ha...
