We present an adaptive coupled level-set/volume-of-fluid (ACLSVOF) method for interfacial flow simulations on unstructured triangular grids. At each time step, we evolve both the level set function and the volume fraction. The level set function is evolved by solving the level set advection equation using a discontinuous Galerkin finite element method. The volume fraction advection is performed...

We discuss selected aspects of a new parallel three-dimensional (3-D) computational tool for the unstructured mesh simulation of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) casting processes. This tool, known as Telluride, draws upon on robust, high resolution finite volume solutions of metal alloy mass, momentum, and enthalpy conservation equations to model the filling, cooling, and solidification o...

The Finite Volume Time-Domain (FVTD) method finds limited application in the simulation of electromagnetic scattering from electrically large scatterers because of the fine discretization required in terms of points-per-wavelength. An efficient implementation of a higher-order FVTD method is proposed for electrically large, perfectly conducting scatterers. Higher-order and fine-grid accuracy ar...

in this paper, the temperature distribution around a moving heat source had been investigated including the phase change and non phase change . in non-phase change state, the governing equation was converted to finite difference equation by finite volume method and the equation was solved by alternating direction implicit method. this method was unconditionally stable . in phase change state, t...

1. In [12] and [13] Selberg introduced a trace formula for a compact, locally symmetric space of negative curvature. There is a natural algebra of operators on any such space which commute with the Laplacian. The Selberg trace formula gives the trace of these operators. Selberg also pointed out the importance of deriving such a formula when the symmetric space is assumed only to have finite vol...

We consider properly immersed finite topology minimal surfaces Σ in complete finite volume hyperbolic 3-manifolds N , and in M × S, where M is a complete hyperbolic surface of finite area. We prove Σ has finite total curvature equal to 2π times the Euler characteristic χ(Σ) of Σ, and we describe the geometry of the ends of Σ. .

We evaluate the pion mass in finite volume to two loops within Chiral Perturbation Theory. The results are compared with a recently proposed extension of the asymptotic formula of Lüscher. We find that contributions, which were neglected in the latter, are numerically very small at the two-loop level. The pion mass in finite volume to two loops Christoph Haefeli

A finite volume method for solving the degenerate chemotaxis model is presented, along with numerical examples. This model consists of a degenerate parabolic convection– diffusion PDE for the density of the cell-population coupled to a parabolic PDE for the chemoattractant concentration. It is shown that discrete solutions exist, and the scheme converges.

High order path-conservative schemes have been developed for solving nonconservative hyperbolic systems in [32, 7, 6]. Recently, it has been observed in [3] that this approach may have some computational issues and shortcomings. In this paper, a modification to the high order path-conservative scheme in [7], based on the high order finite volume WENO scheme with subcell resolution and utilizing...

Let M be a complete simply connected Riemannian manifold, with sectional curvature K ≤ −1. Under some assumptions on the geometry of ∂M , which are satisfied for instance if M is a symmetric space, or has dimension 2, we prove that given any family of horoballs in M , and any point x0 outside these horoballs, it is possible to shrink uniformly, by a finite amount depending only on M , these hor...
