Facticious accumulation of the radiopharmaceutical in the urinary draining system as shown by routine renal tests, like technetium- 99m-diethylenetriamine pentacetic acid, technetium-99m-mercaptylacetyltriglycine or technetium-99m-glucoheptonate renograms can be re-evaluated by administering a diuretic, like furosemide (FS) and obtaining post FS dynamic and static images. Urinary tract obstruct...

Thoracic venous aneurysms are a rare clinical entity and contrast-enhanced computed tomography has been the cornerstone of their diagnosis. We are reporting a rare case of isolated left brachiocephalic vein aneurysm, which was surgically managed, highlighting the role of dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging as a definitive diagnostic modality in this patient.

BACKGROUND Genetic polymorphisms, gender and age all influence the risk of developing chronic neuropathic pain following peripheral nerve injury (PNI). It is known that there are significant inter-strain differences in pain hypersensitivity in strains of mice after PNI. In response to PNI, one of the earliest events is thought to be the disruption of the blood-spinal cord barrier (BSCB). The st...

Understanding a compound's preclinical pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic, and efficacy relationship can greatly facilitate its clinical development. Bortezomib is a first-in-class proteasome inhibitor whose pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic parameters are poorly understood in terms of their relationship with efficacy. Here we characterized the bortezomib pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic/efficacy re...

Cerebral blood flow (CBF) and vascular mean transit time (MTT) can be determined by dynamic susceptibility contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging and deconvolution with an arterial input function. However, deconvolution by a singular value decomposition (SVD) method is sensitive to the tracer delay that often occurs in patients with cerebrovascular disease. We investigated the effect of t...

Antiangiogenic therapy, especially treatment with sorafenib, is the primary treatment for patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the efficacy of such therapy is modest, with low objective response rates and limited prolongation of survival times. Several researchers have investigated predictive biomarkers to help identify patients who can benefit most from antiangiogeni...

Aberrations in tumor and peritumoral vasculature may not be distinguishable by cerebral blood flow (CBF) or cerebral blood volume (CBV) alone. The relationships between CBF and CBV were examined to estimate vasculature-specific hemodynamic characteristics. Twenty glioma patients were studied with dynamic susceptibility T2*-weighted MRI [(dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DSC...

OBJECTIVE To establish a simple two-compartment model for glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and renal plasma flow (RPF) estimations by dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI). MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of eight New Zealand white rabbits were included in DCE-MRI. The two-compartment model was modified with the impulse residue function in this study. First, the reliabi...

RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES Normal-appearing stromal tissues surrounding breast tumors can harbor abnormalities that lead to increased risk of local recurrence. The objective of this study was to develop a new imaging methodology to characterize the signal patterns of stromal tissue and to investigate their association with recurrence-free survival following neoadjuvant chemotherapy. MATERIALS A...

Blind Source Separation (BSS) is a powerful tool for analyzing composite data patterns in many areas, such as computational biology. We introduce a novel BSS method, Convex Analysis of Mixtures (CAM), for separating non-negative well-grounded sources, which learns the mixing matrix by identifying the lateral edges of the convex data scatter plot. We propose and prove a sufficient and necessary ...
