The geography of innovation is built upon an agglomeration of economies and “innovation hearths”, (Crevosier, 2004). Innovative success of a firm is often indicated by their creativity, access to alliances, and usage of access to local resources. Few metrics have been able to give adequate rise to a definition for Innovation as a means of measuring entrepreneurial and innovative success in comb...

Discriminant analysis is a classification method that can predict the group membership of a newly sampled observation. In discriminant analysis, classification of new observed data has an uncertainty. In this paper, the confidence degree is introduced to determine the confidence of classification of new observed data. Then, a Monte Carlo-based sensitivity analysis is applied to an assessment of...

We present an alternative to the pseudo-inverse method for determining the hidden to output weight values for Extreme Learning Machines performing classification tasks. The method is based on linear discriminant analysis and provides Bayes optimal single point estimates for the weight values.

The analysis of brain activations using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is an active area of neuropsychological research. Standard techniques for analysis have traditionally focused on finding the most significant areas of brain activation, and have only recently begun to explore the importance of their spatial characteristics. We compare fMRI contrast images and significance maps ...

In order to develop an innovation, enterprises can collaborate either with academic institutions or other enterprises that would profit from its development. Collaboration is determined by various factors. The goal of this paper is to determine variables that are predictors of innovation collaboration in Croatian enterprises. The results of discriminant analysis suggest that the variables disti...

Femur parameters are key prerequisites for scientifically designing anatomical plates. Meanwhile, individual differences in femurs present a challenge to design well-fitting anatomical plates. Therefore, to design anatomical plates more scientifically, analyses of femur parameters with statistical methods were performed in this study. The specific steps were as follows. First, taking eight anat...

The use of principal components in linear discriminant analysis has been considered by several authors. However, many of the properties of procedures associated with this usage are unknown. Here, using a simulation study, we investigate the power to choose thècorrect' components in the discriminant function. We also include the null case where no component has any discriminatory value.

The paper proposes a method for linear transformation of the features space, based on the use of discriminant analysis algorithm. For the test set of images the use of the obtained features space instead of the initial one has reduced the clustering error from 30% to 10%.
