With the goal of providing the first example of application of a recently proposed method, thus demonstrating its ability to give results in principle, global stability of a version of the rotating Couette flow is examined. The flow depends on the Reynolds number and a parameter characterizing the magnitude of the Coriolis force. By converting the original Navier-Stokes equations to a finite-di...

The antarctic plateau acts as a strong heat sink for the global climate, cooling the atmosphere and radiating energy to space. A cold dense atmospheric boundary layer is formed. Strong surface winds are formed as the boundary layer drains off the plateau. These drainage winds and the eddy fluxes necessary to maintain them are analysed in a general circulation model (GCM). The drainage flow is w...

A compact electronic spirometer, the turbine pocket spirometer, which measures the FEV1, forced vital capacity (FVC), and peak expiratory flow (PEF) in a single expiration, was compared with the Vitalograph and the Wright peak flow meter in 99 subjects (FEV1 range 0.40-5.50 litres; FVC 0.58-6.48 l; PEF 40-650 l min-1). The mean differences between the machines were small--0.05 l for FEV1, 0.05 ...

This technical report gives detail on the results obtained from evaluating the ANGEL Flow Meter (FM) performance. Evaluation metrics include packet loss, CPU and memory usage and the robust of the hash algorithm employed. It has been shown that the FM’s suffered packet loss (more than 10%) when coping with approximately more than 30,000 packets per second and 30,000 flows per second. There has ...

A recently developed spatial operator algebra approach to modeling and analysis of multibody robotic systems is used to develop O(n) recursive algorithms that compute the operational space mass matrix and the operational space coriolis/centrifugal and gravity terms of an n-link serial manipulator. These algorithms enable an O(n) recursive implementation of operational space control.

OBJECTIVE To compare measurements of the peak expiratory flow rate taken by the mini Wright peak flow meter and the turbine spirometer. DESIGN Pragmatic study with randomised order of use of recording instruments. Phase 1 compared a peak expiratory flow type expiration recorded by the mini Wright peak flow meter with an expiration to forced vital capacity recorded by the turbine spirometer. P...
