We describe a case of spontaneous relocation of a posterior dislocation of the mobile bearing in a medial unicompartmental knee replacement, prior to surgical intervention. We are unaware of any similar cases in the published literature. This paper highlights some clinical issues around this type of dislocation.
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY This prospective, open, non-controlled clinical investigation evaluated the performance of a modern post-operative wound dressing versus conventional dressings used on wounds of patients after undergoing hip or knee replacement. METHODS The clinical investigation started with a two-week observation phase of conventional wound dressings, followed by an intervention phase w...
Trochleoplasty is the theoretical solution to persistent symptoms (pain and/or instability) related to trochlear dysplasia where there is not only a trochlear flatness but also a trochlear prominence. The threshold of prominence indicating surgical intervention has as yet not been determined. A bump of 5 mm is generally accepted as the inferior limit. Given the interventional nature of this dem...
BACKGROUND When conducting large scale epidemiologic studies, it is a challenge to obtain quantitative exposure estimates, which do not rely on self-report where estimates may be influenced by symptoms and knowledge of disease status. In this study we developed a job exposure matrix (JEM) for use in population studies of the work-relatedness of hip and knee osteoarthritis. METHODS Based on al...
[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to evaluate hip flexor and extensor strength due to differences in posture measurement. [Subjects and Methods] Healthy adults (26 males and 24 females) were enrolled. Using a hand-held dynamometer, hip flexor and extensor strengths were measured in various postures and in a basic posture (sitting posture and hip/knee joint flexed 90°) according to the Man...
Chronic dislocation of the knee is a rare condition due to a diagnostic mistake during emergency assessment. Usually, dislocation obliges the surgeon to carry out a broad assessment, with vascular and neurological examination, and a thorough assessment of joint injuries. The immediate and stable closed reduction can resolve neurovascular compression. The most serious late sequela is joint insta...
Acute patellar dislocation or subluxation is a common cause for knee injuries in the United States and accounts for 2% to 3% of all injuries. Up to 49% of patients will have recurrent subluxations or dislocations. Importance of both soft tissue (predominantly, the medial patellofemoral ligament, MPFL, which is responsible for 60% of the resistance to lateral dislocation) and bony constraint of ...
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES As a result of reading this article, physicians should be able to: 1. Understand the etiology, epidemiology, and importance of treatment of isolated subtalar dislocation. 2. Understand the most common management practices when treating isolated subtalar dislocation and identify variations in management that may affect prognosis. 3. Consolidate reported patient outcomes as...
Osteochondral fractures of the patella are relatively common pediatric knee injuries, often missed during initial evaluation, and almost always associated with acute dislocations. We report case an adolescent patient a very large osteochondral fracture involving whole medial patellar facet without concomitant dislocation patella. A 16-year-old presented to emergency pain swelling in left after ...
conclusions surgical treatment for patellar dislocation is indicated primarily in case of relevant concomitant injuries such as osteochondral fractures, and secondarily for recurrent dislocations. evidence acquisition authors searched the medline library for studies on both surgical and conservative treatment for patellar dislocation and patellofemoral instability. additionally, the reference l...
