We discuss the history of exploration of Red Clay vertebrate fossils of the Loess Plateau, and record observations on “Hipparion Red Clay” localities of Shanxi and Gansu provinces. Red clay is widespread across the Loess Plateau, but misleading as a descriptive term because many deposits are neither red nor dominated by clay-size sediment. Many red clay sequences contain paleosols, but also wat...

Photocatalytic hydrogen evolution over semiconducting niobate nanosheets is synergistically improved by coexisting photochemically inactive additives of clay particles and sodium chloride without precise nanoscopic structural regulation. In addition, the Pt cocatalyst loaded on the clay particles works better than that photodeposited on the photocatalytic nanosheets.

A model describing the electric double layers in clay-electrolyte systems containing particles with different surface charge densities was developed and used to calculate the film thickness of water present in a clay paste. The average water film thicknesses (-18/~) calculated by considering the clay to contain 9 groups of particles of different charge densities did not differ from those calcul...

Research in nanotechnology in the petroleum industry is advancing rapidly and an enormous progress in the application of nanotechnology in this area is to be expected. In particular, adding nanoparticles to fluids may drastically benefit enhanced oil recovery and improve well drilling, by changing the properties of the fluid, rocks wettability alteration, advanced drag reduction, strengthen...

this thesis attempts to study the representations of the third-world intellectuals in three fictional works by the british-educated trinidadian nobel-winner v. s. naipaul: the mimic men, a bend in the river, and magic seeds. the first one recounts the story of ralph singh’s sense of alienation, his experiences as a colonial politician, and his struggle to give order to his disorderly world thro...

Transport and retention of colloid tracers were evaluated in standard petrographic thin sections, prepared from saprolite (Cr horizons) formed from fractured sedimentary rocks, using epi-fluorescence microscopy. Thin sections prepared from dismantled hydrogeological columns revealed four domains of macropores with apparent apertures ranging from 1 to 500 Am. Colloid retention occurred within bo...

The results of the effects of electrolyte type and concentration, nanoparticle concentration, pH, and temperature on the mobility and aqueous stability of polyethylene glycol (PEG)-coated silica nanoparticles are presented. Nanoparticle mobility was evaluated based on the ability to inhibit montmorillonite swelling in aqueous solutions through visual swelling tests, and the results were quantif...

In this study, a feasible green method for the synthesis of copper oxide nanocrystalline is described by using sour cherry juice which has a significant effect on crystalline size, and morphology. The benefits of the green method, not only nanometer scale are formed but also low-cost method are obtained in a normal atmosphere which it has been used (CH3COO)2Cu.H2O individually as Cu sources. Al...

This study investigates the removal of tungsten from simulated water using biopolymer coated particles (i.e. chitosan coated clay) and natural clay. The effects of initial tungsten concentration (from 20 to 500 ppm) and water pH (4, 5.5 and 6.4) on zeta potential and tungsten removal were studied for both chitosan coated clay and natural clay. It was found that the net surface charge of natural...
