Computer simulation of high-speed Gallium Arsenide Charge Coupled Devices is performed using an established twodimensional semiconductor device simulation program. The effect of active layer thickness on the Charge Transfer Efficiency (CTE) and the dynamic range is investigated using different active layers. Also, different gate architectures are compared for optimum dynamic range and compatibi...

High-resolution satellite images at sub-5m footprint are becoming increasingly available to the earth observation community and their respective clients. The related cameras are all using linear array CCD technology for image sensing. The possibility and need for accurate 3D object reconstruction requires a sophisticated camera model, being able to deal with such sensor geometry. We have recent...

We have measured the radiant of the Leonids meteor storm in November 2001 by using new observational and analysis techniques. The radiant was measured as the intersections of lines which were detected and extrapolated from images obtained at a single observing site (Akeno Observatory, Japan). The images were obtained by two sets of telephoto lenses equipped with cooled CCD cameras. The measured...

We present a first experimental test of the existence of Spontaneus Para-metric Up Conversion predicted in Ref. [3]. The measurement has been made using a ccd camera on the emission of a LiIO 3 crystal pumped by a 351 nm and/or a 789 nm lasers. We obtain an upper limit of 160 times on the ratio between intensity of Spontaneus Parametric Up Conversion and Spontaneous Parametric Down conversion.

Gravitational lenses are becoming a precious mean of probing the matter distribution in the Universe. From the search of matter in the Galactic halo to the study of the large-scale structures of the Universe, the gravitational lens effects offer a unique alternative to light surveys and are now widely used. This evolution is due in particular to the use of new observation devices, such as the w...

Charge transfer and accumulation at semiconductor devices can lead to device degradation. Understanding and controlling such a process is therefore important. Second harmonic generation has been shown to be a sensitive probe of charging of semiconductor interfaces, with the added advantages of high spatial and temporal resolution. We have investigated the use of self assembled monolayers ~SAMs!...

An auto-focusing method in a digital image system is demonstrated that uses a standard deviation of pixel gray levels as a feedback signal. In this system, an optical microscope and a charge coupled device (CCD) camera are used to create clear pit images of optical discs. A dynamic focusing scheme is designed in the system-control software, which is able to eliminate environmental disturbances ...
