The motion of a three-dimensional deformable drop between two parallel plane walls in a low-Reynolds-number Poiseuille flow is examined using a boundary-integral algorithm that employs the Green’s function for the domain between two infinite plane walls, which incorporates the wall effects without discretization of the walls. We have developed an economical calculation scheme that allows long-t...

This paper proposes a hybrid post-filter for microphone arrays with the assumption of a diffuse noise field, where few postfilter performs well, to suppress correlated as well as uncorrelated noises. In the proposed post-filter, a modified Zelinski post-filter is applied to the high frequencies to suppress spatially uncorrelated noise and a single-channel Wiener post-filter is applied to the lo...

Matched filters are the optimal linear filters for signal detection under linear channel and white noise conditions. Their optimality is guaranteed in the additive white Gaussian noise channel due to the sufficiency of second order statistics. In this paper, we introduce a nonlinear filter for signal detection based on the Cauchy-Schwartz quadratic mutual information (CS-QMI) criterion. This fi...

Simple and efficient approaches for filter design at optical frequencies using a large number of coupled microcavities are proposed. The design problem is formulated as an optimization problem with a unique global solution. Various efficient filter designs are obtained at both the drop and through ports. Our approaches are illustrated through a number of examples.

-As an alternative to Kalman filtering, a risk-sensitive filtering is proposed for a linear time-varying fading channel estimation problem and its robustness against the parameter and process noise uncertainty in the channel model is explored. The time-varying channel estimation problem is formulated as time varying Finite Impulse Response (FIR) filter with a known rectangular pulse at input an...

In this paper, a Kalman filter based packet scheduling scheme with low complexity is proposed for LTE downlink system to adapt to various imperfect channel states. A channel quality predictor based on Kalman filter is developed to estimate the current channel quality information (CQI) from previous CQI value and observed CQI value, and a grouping method is employed to cover the gaps caused by K...

A bandwidth-tunable filter has been demonstrated based on a micro-electro-mechanical-system (MEMS) actuated single-crystalline silicon microtoroidal resonator. Bandwidth is tuned from 2.8 to 78.4 GHz by voltage control, the largest bandwidth tuning range reported to date to our knowledge in resonator-based filters. A 21.8 dB extinction ratio is attained as a dynamic add-drop filter.

A technique of computing the pressure drop and deposition rate evolution during soot loading and the 3D distribution of deposited soot particles for micro-structured ceramic filter media is presented. Methods developed at Fraunhofer ITWM for generating 3D computer models representing the microstructure of the filter material and for computing soot particle deposition in the microstructure model...

Oversampled filter banks (OSFB) have been considered for channel coding, since their redundancy can be utilised to permit the detection and correction of channel errors. In this paper, we propose an OSFB based channel coder for a correlated additive Gaussian noise channel, of which the noise covariance matrix is assumed to be known. Based on a suitable factorisation of this matrix, we develop a...

Linear transmit filters depend on current channel state information, which is available from the uplink channel estimation in time division duplex systems. For multiple antenna elements at the transmitter, we illustrate the influence of out-dated channel estimates on link level performance for symmetric and asymmetric traffic, comparing the transmit matched, zero-forcing, and Wiener filter. A W...
