A fairly elementary introduction to supersymmetric field theories in general and the minimal supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) in particular is given. Topics covered include the cancellation of quadratic divergencies, the construction of the supersymmetric Lagrangian using superfields, the field content of the MSSM, electroweak symmetry breaking in the MSSM, mixing between different superpar...
We calculate the S-wave decay widths and energy shifts for π+π− and πK atoms in the framework of QCD + QED. The evaluation valid at next-to-leading order in isospin symmetry breaking is performed within a non-relativistic effective field theory. The results are of interest for future hadronic atom experiments.
The center-stabilized multiflavor QCD* theories formulated on R3 × S1 exhibit both Abelian and non-Abelian confinement as a function of the S1 radius, similar to the Seiberg–Witten theory as a function of the mass deformation parameter. For sufficiently small number of flavors and small r(S1), we show occurence of a mass gap in gauge fluctuations, and linear confinement. This is a regime of con...
A general analysis of Q-ball solutions of the supersymmetric F-term hybrid inflation field equations is given. The solutions consist of a complex inflaton field and a real symmetry breaking field, with a conserved global charge associated with the inflaton. It is shown that the Q-ball solutions for any value of the superpotential coupling, κ, may be obtained from those with κ = 1 by rescaling t...
In a class of models of dynamical symmetry breaking not ruled out by the available data, the lightest neutral pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson (P ) contains only down-type techniquarks and charged technileptons. Its mass scale is naturally determined by the b-quark and therefore it is likely to be light. As the presence of pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone bosons in models of dynamical symmetry breaking is a ...
Many constraint problems contain symmetry, which can lead to redundant search. If a partial assignment is shown to be invalid, we are wasting time if we ever consider a symmetric equivalent of it. A particularly important class of symmetries are those introduced by the constraint modelling process: model symmetries. We present a systematic method by which the automated constraint modelling tool...
The seesaw mechanism, which is responsible for the description of neutrino masses and mixing, requires a scale lower than the unification scale. We propose a new model with spinor superfields playing important roles to generate this seesaw scale, with special attention paid on the Goldstone mode of the U (1) B−L symmetry breaking.
The sequestering of supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking parameters, which is induced by superconformal hidden sector, is one of the solutions for the μ/Bμ problem in gauge-mediated SUSY-breaking scenario. However, it is found that the minimal messenger model does not derive the correct electroweak symmetry breaking. In this paper we present a model which has the coupling of the messengers with the SO...
A supercurrent superfield whose components include a conserved energy-momentum tensor and supersymmetry current as well as a (generally broken) R-symmetry current is constructed for a generic effective N=1 supersymmet-ric gauge theory. The general form of the R-symmetry breaking is isolated. Included within the various special cases considered is the identification of those models which exhibit...
We propose a model of cosmology and particle physics in which all relevant scales arise in a natural way from an intermediate string scale. We are led to assign the string scale to the intermediate scale M * ∼ 10 13 GeV by four independent pieces of physics: electroweak symmetry breaking; the µ parameter; the axion scale; and the neutrino mass scale. The model involves hybrid inflation with the...
