In this article, the isothermal low-cycle fatigue continuum damage in the engine piston aluminum alloy has been evaluated at different temperatures. For this objective, experimental data of low-cycle fatigue tests on standard specimens were used at 280, 350 and 425°C. Based on the continuum damage mechanics method, the fatigue damage was calculated during cyclic loading. Obtained results, inclu...

We study in this paper the consequences of using the Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) as a measure of quality for regression models. We show that finding the best model under the MAPE is equivalent to doing weighted Mean Absolute Error (MAE) regression. We show that universal consistency of Empirical Risk Minimization remains possible using the MAPE instead of the MAE.

In this paper we present a new method for machine learning-based optimization of linguist-written Constraint Grammars. The effect of rule ordering/sorting, grammarsectioning and systematic rule changes is discussed and quantitatively evaluated. The F-score improvement was 0.41 percentage points for a mature (Danish) tagging grammar, and 1.36 percentage points for a half-size grammar, translatin...

Kinetics and selected variables (temperature, particle size and time) for extraction of Terminalia Catappa L Kernel Oil (TCKO) were investigated using solvent extraction. Kinetic models studied were: parabolic diffusion, power law, hyperbolic, Elovich and pseudo-second-order. In ascending order, the best-fitted models at the optimum temperature and oil yield were Elovich’s model, hyperbolic...

The Caenorhabditis elegans oocyte is a highly amenable system for forward and reverse genetic analysis of receptor-mediated endocytosis. We describe the use of transgenic strains expressing a vitellogenin::green fluorescent protein (YP170::GFP) fusion to monitor yolk endocytosis by the C. elegans oocyte in vivo. This YP170::GFP reporter was used to assay the functions of C. elegans predicted pr...

BACKGROUND The authors conducted a literature review to evaluate immediate transverse, anteroposterior, and vertical dental and skeletal changes produced by rapid maxillary expansion (RME). TYPES OF STUDIES REVIEWED The authors reviewed clinical trials that assessed immediate dental and/or skeletal changes after RME using cephalometric analysis, model casts or both. No surgical or other simul...

Related to the recent issues on the environmental sustainability, the attention and importance of Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) has increased rapidly. As a part of System Redesign Project funded by Veterans Engineering Resource Center (VERC), “Design Evaluation for Reusable Medical Equipment” project has been conducted. This research project aims to develop new RME design assessment and eval...

This study pointed out that word problem solving instruction in Realistic Math Education (RME) may have insufficient attention for teaching semantic-linguistic skills to handle semantic complexities in word problems. We investigated the performances of 80 sixth grade students, classified as successful and less successful word problem solvers based on a standardized mathematics test from the RME...

Successfully solving mathematical word problems requires both mental representation skills and reading comprehension skills. In Realistic Math Education (RME), however, students primarily learn to apply the first of these skills (i.e., representational skills) in the context of word problem solving. Given this, it seems legitimate to assume that students from a RME curriculum experience difficu...

The need for prediction and patterns of gas consumption especially in the cold seasons is essential for consumption management and policy planning decision making. In residential and commercial uses which account for the bulk of gas consumption in the country the effects of meteorological variables have the highest impact on consumption.  In the present research four variables include daily ave...
