Abstract. Forest fires modify soil organic carbon and suppress respiration for many decades after the initial disturbance. The associated changes in autotrophic heterotrophic from time of forest fire, however, are less well characterized. FireResp model predicts parameterized with a novel dataset across fire chronosequence Yukon Northwest Territories Canada. consisted incubation experiments fie...
Here, we report the closed genome sequence of Clostridium aceticum, an Rnf- and cytochrome-containing autotrophic acetogen that is able to convert CO2 and H2 to acetate using the Wood-Ljungdahl pathway. The genome consists of a circular chromosome (4.2 Mbp) and a small circular plasmid (5.7 kbp).
Berg et al. (Reports, 14 December 2007, p. 1782) reported the discovery of an autotrophic carbon dioxide-fixation pathway in Archaea and implicated a substantial role of this pathway in global carbon cycling based on sequence analysis of Global Ocean Sampling data. We question the validity of the latter claim.
Autotrophic organisms obtain phosphorus from the environment by secreting alkaline phosphatases that act on esters, resulting in inorganic phosphate that is then taken up. New work shows that the cyanobacterium Aphanizomenon ovalisporum obtains inorganic phosphate by secreting the cyanotoxin cylindrospermopsin, which induces alkaline phosphatase in other phytoplankton species.
