Two Gram-stain-negative, non-fermentative bacterial strains, designated 11-0202(T) and 11-0607, were isolated from soil in South Korea, and four others, LUH 13522, LUH 8638, LUH 10268 and LUH 10288, were isolated from a beet field in Germany, soil in the Netherlands, and sediment of integrated fish farms in Malaysia and Thailand, respectively. Based on 16S rRNA, rpoB and gyrB gene sequences, th...
INTRODUCTION Acinetobacter spp. is an important opportunistic pathogen responsible for increasing number of nosocomial infections. The majority of infection are of epidemic origin, and treatment has become difficult because many strains are resistant to a wide range of antibiotics. The aim of this study was to investigate the local infections caused by various species of the genus Acinetobacter...
Acinetobacter baumannii resistance to carbapenems is of global concern. Here, we report the 3.9 Mb draft genome of a cerebrospinal fluid isolate of A. baumannii strain 10441_14 which is carbapenem resistant and belongs to ST451. This genome will further help in the understanding of the drug resistance mechanism, epidemiology, and pathology of this bacterium.
Thirty-one Acinetobacter baumannii strains, comprising 14 strains from 14 outbreaks in different northwestern European cities and 17 sporadic strains, were compared by investigating various properties of the strains including biotype, antibiogram, cell envelope protein electrophoretic profile, ribotype pattern, and the band pattern generated by a novel genomic fingerprinting method, named AFLP,...
OBJECTIVES To determine if members of the European clonal lineages are present amongst multiply antibiotic-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii isolates from Australia. To search for AbaR-type genomic antibiotic resistance islands and determine the genetic organization of any AbaR detected. METHODS Two groups of multiply antibiotic-resistant A. baumannii strains isolated between 2002 and 2007 at...
This study identified, using PCR blaoxA,,23 encoding carbapenamase OXA-23 in 42 carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB) clinical iso- lates and blaOXA-40-like encoding carbapenamase OXA-40-like in one isolate (the first such Thai sample) obtained from patients admitted to Hua Hin Hospital, Thailand during November 2011-September 2012. Using repetitive extragenic palindromic PCR, the...
Over 15% of the genome of an Australian clinical isolate of Acinetobacter baumannii occurs within genomic islands. An uncharacterized protein encoded within one island feature common to this and other International Clone II strains has been studied by X-ray crystallography. The 2.4 Å resolution structure of SDR-WM99c reveals it to be a new member of the classical short-chain dehydrogenase/reduc...
We report here the draft genome sequences of two multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii clinical strains, H31499 and H31506, which were isolated at the Lausanne University Hospital in 2015 from an Albanian and a Togolese patient, respectively.
Acinetobacter; Nosocomial infections; Multi-drug resistance; Epidemiology; Characteristics Abstract The genus Acinetobacter is a major cause of nosocomial infections; it is increasingly being associated with various epidemics and has become a widespread concern in a variety of hospitals worldwide. Multi-antibiotic resistant Acinetobacter baumannii, is now recognized to be of great clinical sign...
Multiple antibiotic resistance threatens successful treatment of Acinetobacter baumannii infections worldwide. Increasing interest in the well-known activity of sulbactam against the genus Acinetobacter has been aroused. The purpose of this study was to compare the outcomes for patients with Acinetobacter bacteremia treated with cefoperazone/sulbactam versus imipenem/cilastatin. Forty-seven pat...
