An efficient K3PO4-mediated synthesis of unsymmetrical diaryl ethers using the ionic liquid [Bmim]BF4 (1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate) as solvent has been developed. The procedure involves consecutive deprotection of aryl methane-sulfonates and a nucleophilic aromatic substitution (S(N)Ar) with activated aryl halides.

A nearly linear coordination geometry for Au is found in the title compound, [Au(C(9)H(9)N(2)O(3)S)(C(21)H(21)P)]. The thio-carbamate ligand is orientated so that the aryl group is in close proximity to the Au atom, consistent with an Au⋯π contact [Au⋯Cg = 3.351 (5) Å; Cg is the centroid of the aromatic ring].

A stereoselective synthesis of 1-substituted (E)-2-aryl-but-1-en-3-ynes, including tetrasubstituted alkenes, has been developed from aryl-substituted α-allenols by treatment with the AcCl-NaOH (aqueous) system. This transformation might be explained through the elimination of acetic acid, made up of a δ-hydrogen and the acetate group in the initially formed α-allenic acetate.

A (2R,4S)-trans-disubstituted pyrrolidine ring system was constructed by employing iodine-mediated oxidative cyclization of (1R)-N-[1-(4-bromophenyl)-3-butenyl]acetamide 3 as a key step. The resulting diastereomeric mixture of (2R)-2-aryl-4-acetoxypyrrolidine 4 was stereoselectively converted to the side-chain of a novel ultrabroad-spectrum carbapenem 1, via (2R,4R)-2-aryl-4-hydroxypyrrolidine 7.
