In this paper we address the problem of uncalibrated structure and motion recovery from image sequences that contain dominant planes in some of the views. Traditional approaches fail when the features common to three consecutive views are all located on a plane. This is, however, a situation that is often hard to avoid in man-made environments. We propose a complete approach that detects the pr...

Today with the development of new information technologies, the domain of conservation and promotion of cultural heritage benefits from new tools to disseminate knowledge on heritage buildings. These tools are intended to help experts to enrich and access information about buildings. This paper describes this critical issue and proposes an approach permitting the automatic transfer of annotatio...

Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) is a carefully planned systematic process with the purpose of acquiring physical evidences to shed light upon the physical reality of the crime and eventually detect the identity of the criminal. Capturing images and videos of the crime scene is an important part of this process in order to conduct a deeper analysis on the digital evidence for possible hints. Thi...

This paper performs a comprehensive and comparative evaluation of the state of the art local features for the task of image based 3D reconstruction. The evaluated local features cover the recently developed ones by using powerful machine learning techniques and the elaborately designed handcrafted features. To obtain a comprehensive evaluation, we choose to include both float type features and ...

This paper discusses the accuracies of two methods for automatic image orientation, 3D reconstruction, and extraction of textures of building facades from thermal IR image sequences. The first method uses the image sequence and camera calibration information only to reconstruct the scene in model coordinates and coregisters this model to a given 3D building model to derive optimized orientation...

Feature learning for 3D shapes is challenging due to the lack of natural paramterization for 3D surface models. We adopt the multi-view depth image representation and propose Multi-View Deep Extreme Learning Machine (MVD-ELM) to achieve fast and quality projective feature learning for 3D shapes. In contrast to existing multiview learning approaches, our method ensures the feature maps learned f...

In this paper we present an algorithm to correct 3D reconstruction errors of 3D ultrasound catheter caused by ultrasound image thickness. We also provide a method to quickly measure ultrasound image plane's thickness. With thickness correction registration accuracy of navigation system using 3D ultrasound catheters can be improved by 20%.

This paper examines the potential benefits of applying next best view planning to sequential 3D reconstruction from unordered image sequences. A standard sequential structure-and-motion pipeline is extended with active selection of the order in which cameras are resectioned. To this end, approximate covariance propagation is implemented throughout the system, providing running estimates of the ...

We introduce a large-scale 3D shape understanding benchmark using data and annotation from ShapeNet 3D object database. The benchmark consists of two tasks: part-level segmentation of 3D shapes and 3D reconstruction from single view images. Ten teams have participated in the challenge and the best performing teams have outperformed state-of-the-art approaches on both tasks. A few novel deep lea...
