In order to achieve precise, accurate and reliable tracking of human movement, a 3D human model that is very similar to the subject is essential. In this paper, we present a new system to (1) precisely construct the surface shape of the whole human body, and (2) estimate the underlying skeleton. In this work we make use of a set of images of the subject in collaboration with a generic anthropom...

This paper describes an automatic annotation, or autotagging, algorithm that attaches textual tags to 3D models based on their shape and semantic classes. The proposed method employs Manifold Ranking by Zhou et al, an algorithm that takes into account both local and global distributions of feature points, for tag relevance computation. Using Manifold Ranking, our method propagates multiple tags...

In this paper, we present an approach for modeling 3D environments based on octrees using a probabilistic occupancy estimation. Our technique is able to represent full 3D models including free and unknown areas. It is available as an open-source library to facilitate the development of 3D mapping systems. We also provide a detailed review of existing approaches to 3D modeling. Our approach was ...

Executive Overview Everyone knows that good people management enhances corporate performance. Not so obvious is that successful people strategies are three-dimensional, each dimension requiring an equal amount of attention. Based on our ten-year study within seven different organizations, we propose a three-dimensional model that executives can use to determine the current state of their people...

We propose a framework for automatic modeling, detection, and tracking of 3D objects with a Kinect. The detection part is mainly based on the recent template-based LINEMOD approach [1] for object detection. We show how to build the templates automatically from 3D models, and how to estimate the 6 degrees-of-freedom pose accurately and in real-time. The pose estimation and the color information ...

The paper deals with the laserscanning and photogrammetric surveying, the 3D photorealistic modeling, and the virtual navigation of the Thodorian mosaic floor the Basilica of Aquileia, the widest and oldest mosaic pavement in the Christian western world. From the acquired data, 18 clouds of 3D point and 158 digital images, a detailed model of such non-planar surface has been obtained and the im...

With the development of computer graphics and virtual realities, the demand for a content-based 3D model retrieval system becomes urgent. In this study, two features, grid sphere and dodecahedral silhouettes, are proposed and combined for 3D model retrieval. The experiments are conducted on a 3D model database. Experiment results show that the proposed methods are superior to others.

This work presents a volumetric approach to reconstruct and characterize threedimensional (3D) models of external anatomical structures from two-dimensional (2D) images. Volumetric methods represent the final volume using a finite set of 3D geometric primitives, usually designed as voxels. Thus, from an image sequence acquired around the object to reconstruct, the images are calibrated and the ...

This paper tackles the problem of accurately matching a 3D deformable face model to images in challenging real-world scenarios with large amounts of head movement, occlusion, and difficult lighting conditions (Figure 2). A baseline system [1] based on the ASM [2] involves searching with a set of view-dependent local patches to locate image features and using their positions to update the face s...

Although range scanning technology has offered great improvements to digital model creation in recent years, it has also introduced some new concerns. Specifically, recent work shows that topological errors such as tiny handles can significantly lower the overall quality of range-scanned models for down-stream applications (such as simplification and parameterization). In this paper we present ...
