We report the results of a precise measurement of the Ds meson lifetime based on 1662± 56 fully reconstructed Ds → φπ decays, from the charm hadroproduction experiment E791 at Fermilab. Using an unbinned maximum likelihood fit, we measure the Ds lifetime to be 0.518 ± 0.014 ± 0.007 ps. The ratio of the measured Ds lifetime to the world average D0 lifetime [1] is 1.25 ± 0.04. This result differs...

The differentiated services (DS) paradigm has emerged as a scalable approach to provide QoS for unicast communication in the Internet. Utilizing the DS to provide QoS for multicast poses several challenges because of the multi-point aspect, dynamic group membership, and heterogeneous receiver resource requirements of multicast. Existing proposals to accomplish this goal either require extra per...

Prospective cohort studies show that Down's syndrome (DS) is an independent risk factor for hospitalization for RSV bronchiolitis. It is unknown whether this observation has been translated into specific management for DS children. The primary goal was to assess the knowledge of healthcare providers in the European Union about RSV infection in DS children and to determine whether it influenced ...

BACKGROUND The prevalence of Down syndrome (DS)-affected births has increased during the past 30 years; moreover, children with DS have a higher incidence of congenital heart disease compared with their peers. Whether children with DS have better or worse outcomes after repair of congenital heart disease is unclear. We sought to identify differences in in-hospital mortality after cardiac surger...

OBJECTIVES Reduced gray matter volume is a frequently reported finding in brain imaging studies performed with schizophrenia patients. Some studies suggest a probable link between the negative symptoms of schizophrenia and gray matter loss; however, some of the negative symptoms observed in schizophrenia patients are not primarily linked to the core of schizophrenia. This study aimed to compare...

BACKGROUND/AIMS To determine the spectacle prescribing practices of hospital optometrists for infants and young children. METHODS A two-part survey relating to the prescribing of spectacles for non-strabismic children aged one to five years was distributed to all delegates at the 2006 Annual Hospital Optometrists Conference. RESULTS A total of 93 of the 149 optometrists returned the survey....

Extracellular matrix, either produced by cancer cells or by cancer-associated fibroblasts, influences angiogenesis, invasion, and metastasis. Chondroitin/dermatan sulfate (CS/DS) proteoglycans, which occur both in the matrix and at the cell surface, play important roles in these processes. The unique feature that distinguishes DS from CS is the presence of iduronic acid (IdoA) in DS. Here, we r...

BACKGROUND Information on dietary supplement (DS) use during pregnancy is largely lacking. Besides, little is known about the share of DS use as self-medication versus such use following a physician's advice/prescription. Our aim was to evaluate DS use and its socioeconomic, lifestyle and dietary correlates among pregnant women participating in the French NutriNet-Santé cohort study. METHOD D...

In this paper, the impact of chip duty factor (DF) on direct sequence (DS), time hopping (TH) and hybrid DS-TH ultra wideband (UWB) systems is investigated in realistic environments. Rake receivers are designed to perform energy capture (EC) on received UWB signals over multipath and multi-user environment in the presence of narrowband interference. It is found that by applying lower DF in the ...

Morphine and other mu opioids mimic and/or modulate the discriminative stimulus (DS) effects of cocaine, possibly reflecting mutual stimulation of mesolimbic dopamine activity. Less is known about the capacity of cocaine and related stimulants to modulate the DS effects of morphine. The present study investigated the effects of cocaine, amphetamine, and reference drugs, administered alone and w...
