Complete Genome Sequence of a Channel Catfish Epidemic Isolate, Aeromonas hydrophila Strain ML09-119
Aeromonas hydrophila is a Gram-negative, rod-shaped, mesophilic bacterium that infects both aquatic poikilothermic animals and mammals, including humans. Here, we present the complete genome sequence of Aeromonas hydrophila strain ML09-119, which represents a clonal group of A. hydrophila isolates causing outbreaks of bacterial septicemia in channel catfish since 2009.
Aeromonas spp. were identified in five (2,7%) of 182 diarrheal stool cultures, A. caviae was predominant, resistant mainly to ampicillin and cephalotin. This is the first study showing the presence of Aeromonas spp. in diarrheal stools of outpatients in the central region of Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil.
Four Aeromonas strains from clinical and environmental samples differed from known species on the basis of rpoD gene sequence. Multilocus phylogenetic analysis and in silico DNA-DNA hybridization confirmed them as four new species even though their 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity with their closest relatives was >98.7%, as occurred for other Aeromonas spp.
Amoeba-resistant Aeromonas veronii ARB3 and Aeromonas media ARB13 and ARB20, which may be important intracellular pathogens of eukaryotic hosts, were isolated from pond and river waters. The draft genome sequences indicate that the strains harbor multiple protein secretion systems and toxins that induce disruption of the actin cytoskeleton.
Aeromonas hydrophila is an emerging pathogen of aquatic and terrestrial animals, including humans. Here, we report the whole-genome sequence of the septicemic A. hydrophila AH-1 strain, belonging to the serotype O11, and the first mesophilic Aeromonas with surface layer (S-layer) to be sequenced.
Aeromonas hydrophila is a quorum-sensing (QS) bacterium that causes diarrhea in humans upon infection. Here, we report the genome of pathogenic Aeromonas hydrophila strain 187, which possesses a QS gene responsible for signaling molecule N-acyl homoserine lactone (AHL) synthesis and has been found to be located at contig 36.
Aeromonas aquatica and Aeromonas lacus are two new species that have been found in association with cyanobacterial blooms from recreational Finnish lakes where adverse human health effects have been recorded. Here, we present the draft genome sequences of their type strains.
The use of untreated water for drinking and other activities have been associated with intestinal and extraintestinal infections in humans due to Aeromonas species. In the present study aeromonads were isolated from 48.7% of 1,000 water samples obtained from wells and other miscellaneous sources. Aeromonas species were detected in 45% of samples tested in spring, 34.5% in summer, 48% in autumn ...
"Alheira" is a traditional smoked meat sausage produced in the north of Portugal, representing an important economic resource for the region. This meat product has been subjected to research studies with the aim of detecting the presence of common foodborne pathogens, but, to our knowledge, isolation of emerging foodborne Aeromonas from alheira has never been previously described. Present work ...
AIMS To evaluate the relationship between the genomospecies, phenotypic profile and pathogenicity for carp of 37 motile Aeromonas strains. METHODS AND RESULTS Aeromonas strains were identified to genomospecies level by the 16S rDNA restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) method and characterized phenotypically by the API 20E and API Zym systems and by conventional tube or plate method...
