Whip use in horseracing is increasingly being questioned on ethical, animal welfare, social sustainability, and legal grounds. Despite this, there is weak evidence for whip use and its regulation by Stewards in Australia. To help address this, we characterised whip rule breaches recorded by Stewards using Stewards Reports and Race Diaries from 2013 and 2016 in New SouthWales (NSW) and the Austr...

Robotic control of complex objects is inferior to that of humans despite superior communication, sensors and actuators. Therefore, studying human control of complex dynamic objects, in particular a bullwhip, should reveal how humans may achieve superior dexterity. An expert whip-cracker performing two distinct targeting tasks, discrete and rhythmic, was observed using the Qualisys 3D motion cap...

The crack of a whip is produced by a shock wave created by the supersonic motion of the tip of the whip in the air. A simple dynamical model for the propagation and acceleration of waves in the motion of whips is presented. The respective contributions of tension, tapering, and boundary conditions in the acceleration of an initial impulse are studied theoretically and numerically.

Gesneriaceae. Root cuttings were used for various fruit crops, horseradish (Armoracia rusticana P. Gaertn., B Mey. & Scherb.), and others. It was known that when shoots were regenerated adventitiously, as with root cuttings or leaf cuttings, traits (such as variegation), which are associated with chimeras were lost (Bailey, 1896). Humidity control was not nearly as good as today s mist and fog ...
