A 16-year-old girl presented with bilateral back pain caused by bilateral upper pole ureteropelvic junction obstructions; an extremely rare phenomenon. Bilateral robotically assisted upper pole pyeloplasties were preformed at the same setting with an excellent clinical response. Although rare, upper pole ureteropelvic junction obstruction is a defined entity that urologists should be aware of.

Objectives: To assess the feasibility and effectiveness of transperitoneal laparoscopic pyeloplasty in the treatment of ureteropelvic junction obstruction. Laparoscopic pyeloplasty has been shown to have a success rate comparable to that of the open surgical approach. We report the results of our first 15 cases of transperitoneal dismembered pyeloplasty. Patients and methods: From August 2006 t...

We describe the case of a 53-year-old woman with a history of localized breast cancer who presented with flank pain and was found to have new-onset obstruction of the left ureteropelvic junction. Although initially believed to be unrelated to her history of prior malignancy, intraoperative assessment of tissue from the ureteropelvic junction during planned laparoscopic pyeloplasty revealed urot...

Fibroepithelial polyps (FEPs) are rare benign ureteral neoplasms of mesodermal origin. As an intrinsic cause of ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO) they are very uncommon. Excretory urography and diuretic renography used by many urologists to diagnose a UPJO may not detect the ureteral polyp. We present a case of ureteropelvic junction obstruction caused by a fibroepithelial polyp, which ...

Fibroepithelial polyps are a rare underlying reason of ureteropelvic junction obstruction. In the past, open surgery was the only option. However, due to development of minimal invasive technics, treatment alternatives have been changed. Resection by laparoscopy or endoscopy, laser fulguration and/or percutaneous resection are recommended in children and adults. Here, we present a 10-year-old b...

Laparoscopic pyeloplasty is an effective treatment option for ureteropelvic junction obstruction, with success rates superior to other minimally invasive approaches. We describe our technique of laparoscopic pyeloplasty with antegrade placement of ureteral stent with a laparoscopic-guided abdominal puncture. This technique decreases the use of fluoroscopy and also facilitates renal pelvis disse...
