BACKGROUND Venous thromboembolism is a well-recognized and relatively frequent complication of malignancy, whereas tumor thrombosis is a rare complication of solid cancers. The correct diagnosis of tumor thrombosis and its differentiation from VTE can alter patient management and prevent unnecessary long-term anticoagulation treatment. OBJECTIVES To evaluate the contribution of 18F-fluorodeox...

Patients with cancer have an increased risk for venous thrombosis. Interestingly, different cancer types have different rates of thrombosis, with pancreatic cancer having one of the highest rates. However, the mechanisms responsible for the increase in venous thrombosis in patients with cancer are not understood. Tissue factor (TF) is a transmembrane receptor and primary initiator of blood coag...

A malignant tumor can cause hypercoagulation and it also often coexists with thrombosis. Cisplatin-based chemotherapy can also induce adverse vascular effects, including arterial thrombosis. We herein report a case of acute arterial thrombosis in a patient undergoing postoperative adjuvant cisplatin-based chemotherapy for completely resected lung cancer. The patient complained of acute leg pain...

BACKGROUND The risk of thrombotic complications such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) during tumor development is well known. Tumors release into the circulation procoagulant microparticles (MPs) that can participate in thrombus formation following vessel injury. The importance of this MP tissue factor (TF) in the initiation of cancer-associated DVT remains uncertain. OBJECTIVE To investigate ho...

confirm anatomical continuity between the tumor and the renal vein and the vena cava. Treatment of choice is surgery, and outcome in the absence of intervention is poor. In the case reported here, it was difficult to confirm anatomical continuity since the patient had undergone hysterectomy and double adnexectomy 2 years previously. The prognosis of endometrial stromal sarcoma is good, and its ...

Inferior vena cava (IVC) aneurysms are extremely rare. Patients can be asymptomatic, have thrombosis, rupture, or pulmonary embolism. Thrombosis of the IVC aneurysm may mimic a retroperitoneal tumor. Surgical treatment of abdominal venous aneurysms with thrombosis is warranted and is necessary for the management of intraoperative bleeding and thrombosis.

BACKGROUND Adult Wilms tumor (WT, nephroblastoma) is a rare, but well-described renal neoplasm. Although inferior vena cava tumor thrombosis is present in up to 10% of Wilms tumors in childhood, only few cases of this clinical manifestation in adults have been reported. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of adult WT infiltrating into inferior vena cava (IVC) with concomitant d...

Most cases of superior vena cava (SVC) syndrome resulting from neoplasm, especially from lung cancer, remain a serious challenge to treat. Here, for the first time as far as we are aware, we report the case of a non-small-cell lung cancer patient with a massive SVC malignant thrombosis who was treated with thoracic irradiation and erlotinib. The treatment regimen consisted of erlotinib 150 mg/d...
