The modular synthesis of a series of nitrogen-rich polydentate ligands that feature a common pincer-type framework is reported. These ligands allow for site-selective installation of palladium and platinum to give rise to bi- and trimetallic complexes that have d(8)-d(8) interactions.

The multidentate dicarbollide ligand nido-7,8-(NMe2CH2)2-7,8-C2B9H11 has been prepared, structurally characterized, and employed in the preparation of the novel mono- and trimetallic titanium complexes [eta5:eta1-(NMe2CH2)C2B9H9CH2NMe2]Ti(NMe2)2 and [eta5:eta1-[(NMe2CH2)C2B9H9CH2NMe2]Ti(NMe2)]2-mu3-O-Ti(NMe2)2.

A new polyazine-bridged RuRuPt trimetallic supramolecular architecture emulates the photophysical properties of the previously reported Ru2RuPt tetrametallic architecture that exhibits photoinduced charge separation. The RuRuPt complexes are more robust H2O reduction photocatalysts with enhanced stability compared to the Ru2RuPt tetrametallic analogues.

The first anhydrous molecular complexes of uranium(III) chloride, soluble in polar aprotic solvents, are reported, including the structures of the dimeric [UCl3(py)4]2 and the trimetallic [UCl(py)4(μ-Cl)3U(py)2(μ-Cl)3UCl2(py)3].

New trimetallic magnesium complexes were synthesized for bifunctional catalysis. Complex catalysed ε-caprolactone polymerizations in not only a 'living' manner but also in an 'immortal' fashion. Additionally, tri-Mg was active for the coupling of CO(2) with cyclohexene oxide (CHO) on addition of n-Bu(4)NBr co-catalysts to give cis-cyclohexene carbonate under mild conditions.

Monodisperse trimetallic AuCuSn nanocubes are reported where Sn and Cu are inserted into the crystal lattice following co-precipitation protocols along with Au. These trimetallics are explored further towards catalytic hydrazine electrooxidation and their enhanced catalytic activity compared with their bimetallic counterpart AuCu is reported.

The trimetallic complex [{CpMn(μ-OSiPh3)2}2Mn] (1) and the heterocubane [CpMn(μ3-SSiPh3)]4 (2) are formed by deprotonation of Ph3SiQH (Q = O, S) by manganocene, or by transmetallation of manganocene by Ph3SiQLi. The Mn(II) centres in 1 and 2 are antiferromagnetically coupled, with J = −4.4 and −3.0 cm(−1) in 1 and 2, respectively (−2J formalism).

Luminescent europium and terbium complexes and a mixed Eu(III)-Tb(III) complex were prepared, each with three macrocycles coordinating to a single lanthanide ion to form a trimetallic system, and can be used for the ratiometric sensing of anions in the case of the mixed complex.

CuPt/Ag trimetallic alloy nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized by co-sputtering onto liquid polyethylene glycol (PEG), using a CuPt target and an Ag target.
