Voriconazole can prolong the QT interval contributing to life-threatening cardiac arrhythmia. Torsades de pointes is an uncommon but serious complication of voriconazole use which may be under-recognised. We present torsades de pointes in two patients with underlying haematological malignancy being treated for invasive fungal infection with voriconazole. Patients receiving voriconazole should b...

1. Tedisamil is a bradycardiac agent that prolongs the QT interval of the ECG and prevents cardiac arrhythmias. Given this profile, tedisamil might be expected to have proarrhythmic actions similar to Class III antiarrhythmic drugs. To address this question, the actions of dofetilide and tedisamil were examined in rabbit isolated hearts in which bradycardia was induced by AV ablation. 2. The QT...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The present study was undertaken to investigate an effect of dofetilide, a potent arrhythmic blocker of the voltage-gated K(+) channel, hERG, on cardiac autonomic control. Combined with effects on ardiomyocytes, these properties could influence its arrhythmic potency. EXPERIMENTAL APPROACH The short-term variability of beat-to-beat QT interval (STVQT ), induced by dofet...

INTRODUCTION Torsades de pointes is a rare but potentially lethal arrhythmia. The amount of literature available on Torsades de pointes occurring in patients with pheochromocytoma is limited, and we found no literature describing this dysrhythmia in a patient with pheochromocytoma under anesthesia. CASE PRESENTATION We describe the case of a 42-year-old Caucasian woman without QT prolongation...

flecainide has been known to cause torsades de pointes (tdp) in patients with structural heart disease and its mechanism has been attributed to use-dependency. we present a patient with flecainide-induced tdp in the absence of any other precipitating factors.this case highlights potential reverse use dependence associated with flecainide resulting in tdp.

: The most common cause of acquired long QT syndrome in patients without physiological and structural cardiovascular disease is the use medications. Chronic high-dose methadone usage can prolongation interval that may provoke life-threatening arrhythmia Torsades de Pointes. In this study, we present a 41-year-old man with chronic who developed Pointes triggered by short-coupled premature ventri...

Long QT syndrome (LQTS) can present with syncope and seizure-like activity in the setting of torsades de pointes (TdP) with hemodynamic instability. Electrolyte abnormalities and medications can predispose to TdP in the setting of latent LQTS. An implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) is needed if patients with TdP continue to be symptomatic despite medical treatment. We report a case of ...

Amiodarone is generally regarded to have a high safety profile with a low incidence of arrhythmias. However, there have been reports of torsades de pointes under certain conditions, such as electrolyte imbalance or concomitant antiarrhythmic therapy. We describe a case of amiodarone-induced torsade de pointes early after initiation of intravenous amiodarone in the setting of T-wave alternans.
