A catalytic enantioselective bromocyclization of olefinic amides using amino-thiocarbamates as the catalysts has been developed. The resulting enantioenriched 2-substituted 3-bromopiperidines can readily be transformed to 3-substituted piperidines through a silver salt-mediated rearrangement. This process has been applied to the synthesis of a dopaminergic drug, Preclamol.

Stereospecific [3,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement of O-substituted thiocarbamate derivatives of enantiopure allylic alcohols provides allylic thiocarbamates as single enantiomers. Intramolecular arylation by rearrangement of their allyllithium derivatives provides allylic tertiary thiols. Allylation and ring-closing metathesis gives 2,5-dihydrothiophenes containing sulfur-bearing quaternary centres.

We report a novel one-pot two-step synthesis of a variety of S-alkyl thiocarbamates. This method offers a two-directional approach making use of trichloroacetyl chloride, requires no complex starting material, incorporates a variety of substituents, and proceeds in high yields.

An efficient synthesis of aryl carbamates was achieved by introducing alcohols into the reaction of palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling of ArX (X = Cl, OTf) with sodium cyanate. The use of aryl triflates as electrophilic components in this transformation allowed for an expanded substrate scope for direct synthesis of aryl isocyanates. This methodology provides direct access to major carbamate pr...

Immunochemical assays for small molecules such as pesticides are rapidly gaining acceptance among analytical chemists. These techniques are rapid, sensitive, cost effective and can easily cope with large sample loads. This review lists the advantages and disadvantages of the technique and describes the steps in assay development using examples from this laboratory, particularly the thiocarbamat...

A series of sebacic acid esters containing mercaptobenzothiazole and dialkylenedithiocarbamate, which are potential environmentally friendly lubricating grease additives, were synthesized. The tribological properties as lubricating additives in Li-soap greases were evaluated using a 4-ball tester and SRV tester. The results show that the series of sebasic acid esters with dioctyldithiocarbamate...

2,2-Dipicolylamine (DPA) based receptors detect Zn(2+) with high fidelity. A fluorescent sensor with thiocarbamate-linked DPA turns it into a highly selective module for Ag(+) with up to ~7-fold enhancement of fluorescence. The sensor exhibits a double ratiometric behavior. It also displays an interesting [Ag(+)] dependent aggregation induced emission.

The thiocarbamate alcoholism drug disulfiram blocks the P-glycoprotein extrusion pump, inhibits the transcription factor nuclear factor-kappaB, sensitizes tumors to chemotherapy, reduces angiogenesis, and inhibits tumor growth in mice. Thiocarbamates react with critical thiols and also complex metal ions. Using melanoma as the paradigm, we tested whether disulfiram might inhibit growth by formi...
