The steady state response of bond graphs representing passive and active suspension is presented. A bond graph with preferred derivative causality assignment to get the steady state is proposed. A general junction structure of this bond graph is proposed. The proposed methodology to passive and active suspensions is applied.

We report a thermosensitive microgel suspension that can be tuned reversibly between the glass state at low temperature and the liquid state at high temperature. Unlike hard spheres, we find that the glass transition for these suspensions is governed by both the volume fraction and the softness of the particles, where softer suspensions form a glass at higher effective volume fractions. In the ...

SYNOPSIS This work reports a detailed study on the shear magnetorheology of suspensions of magnetic microfibers. The steady-state regime was investigated using a controlled-stress rheometer, for different concentrations of particles and under the presence of a broad range of applied magnetic fields (up to 512 kA m-1). The results were compared with those obtained for conventional magnetorheolog...

The objective of this study was to establish the mechanism(s) controlling degradation of yttria-tetragonally-stabilized zirconia (Y-TZP) powder in aqueous suspensions and determine the significance of this degradation to the aqueous physical chemistry of Y-TZP. Experiments were performed on commercially available Y-TZP powder placed in aqueous suspensions at 25°C. Experimental investigations in...

Suspensions of self-propelled particles are studied in the framework of two-dimensional (2D) Stokesean hydrodynamics. A formula is obtained for the effective viscosity of such suspensions in the limit of small concentrations. This formula includes the two terms that are found in the 2D version of Einstein's classical result for passive suspensions. To this, the main result of the paper is added...

Viscoelastic phase separation is characterized by the formation of a transient gel upon phase separation. A transient gel state is widely observed in complex fluids including polymer solutions, colloidal suspensions, and protein solutions, but its physical description is quite difficult due to its intrinsically nonequilibrium nature. We have modeled this transient gel state using a type of Brow...
