Streptococcus anginosus is an opportunistic human pathogen that causes abscesses of the brain, liver, and other organs. Here, we announce the complete genome sequence of a clinically isolated strain of S. anginosus J4211. The genome sequence contains two prophages and multiple mobile genetic elements.

Classification, nomenclature and identification of the Streptococcus anginosus group (SAG) have been historically problematic and unreliable, mainly due to variability in bacteriological characteristics and clinical presentations. This group was first discovered in 1956 by Guthof, in reference to non-hemolytic streptococcal lassification, nomenclature and identification of the Streptococcus ang...

Streptococcus anginosus (S. anginosus) is considered a friendly bug and is a one of many different bacteria that constitute the normal flora of the oral cavity. Nevertheless, it has been infrequently associated with more invasive infections, like lung abscess. It is extremely rare to have multisystemic involvement with S. anginosus group. We present a unique case of pulmonary and brain abscess ...

A biochemical scheme was developed by which strains of Streptococcus constellatus, Streptococcus intermedius, and Streptococcus anginosus can reliably be distinguished from within the "Streptococcus milleri group." Strains identified as S. intermedius were differentiated by the ability to produce detectable levels of alpha-glucosidase, beta-galactosidase, beta-D-fucosidase, beta-N-acetylgalacto...

Streptococcus anginosus (milleri) is a diverse group of gram positive bacteria. Molecular methods to establish relationship between strains are poorly developed. Therefore, main tool to study genetic variability is restriction fragment length polymorphism combined with pulsed field gel electrophoresis (RFLP-PFGE). In this communication, we present optimized protocol for S. anginosus PFGE analysis.

Brain abscesses are infections of the brain parenchyma that can arise from either contiguous spread from local infection or by hematogenous spread from a distant site. Streptococcus anginosus of the Streptococcus anginosus group (SAG) is a commensal microbe of the mucosae of the oral cavity, gastrointestinal tract, and urogenital tract. We present a case of mono-microbial brain abscess caused b...

Lancefield group F streptococci have been found almost exclusively as members of the 'Streptococcus milleri' group, although they have been reported very occasionally in some other streptococcal species. Among 302 patients with bacteraemia caused by viridans streptococci over a 6-year period, three cases were caused by Streptococcus sinensis (type strain HKU4T, HKU5 and HKU6). All three patient...

Twenty-two unrelated erythromycin-resistant anginosus group strains (3.2% resistance rate) were assessed for mechanisms of resistance. Streptococcus anginosus accounted for 16 of the 22 isolates. Fifteen isolates harbored the erm(B) gene. The erm(TR) and the mef(E) genes were carried by two isolates each. In three isolates, none of these resistance genes was detected by PCR.

In our current study, phytochemical analysis and antibacterial activity of leaf extracts T. parthenium were assessed. Qualitative screening was carried using standard procedures quantitative for estimation total phenolic content (TPC) determined by spectrophotometric method. The accomplished disc diffusion assay, determination minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) bactericidal (MBC) against tw...

Streptococcus anginosus is a pathogen implicated in urogenital and gastroinstestinal tract infections. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of S. anginosus BVI, isolated from a bacterial vaginosis patient attending a prenatal care unit in Cali, Colombia. The genome sequence of BVI consists of 2,014,025 bp, encoding 2,008 predicted proteins.
