Ethanolic extract of bark of Azadirachta indica showed potent spermicidal activity when tested on rat spermatozoa in vitro. When the extract was applied in 1:1 and 1:2 ratio at tree different concentration using wet drop method, cent percent mortality of spermatozoa was observed within 10 seconds. 10% concentration of the extract was considered as an effective dose.

BACKGROUND Cephalotaxus spp. are known to possess various therapeutic potentials. Cephalotaxus griffithii, however, has not been evaluated for its biological potential. The reason may be the remoteness and inaccessibility of the habitat where it is distributed. The main aim of this study was to: (1) evaluate multiple biological potentials of stem bark of C. griffithii, and (2) identify solvent ...

Acetone and methanol extracts of different parts of three Vitex species (leaves and stem bark of Vitex trifolia, leaves, stem bark and root bark of Vitex schiliebenii and stem and root bark of Vitex payos) were evaluated for their potential to control Anopheles gambiae Giles s.s. larvae (Diptera: Culicidae). The extracts gave different levels and rate of mortality of the larvae. Some (methanol ...

This study examined the antinociceptive and antiinflammatory activities of the stem bark of the traditional medicinal plant, Hildegardia poulifolia (Sterculiaceae), an endangered species. Methanolic bark extract of this species was investigated for the antinociceptive effect by using acetic acid-induced writhing and hot plate methods in albino mice and antiinflammatory activity by carrageenan, ...

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the antitumor activity of Manilkara zapota (M. zapota) L. stem bark against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC) in Swiss albino mice. METHODS The in vivo antitumour activity of the ethyl acetate extract of stem bark of M. zapota L. (EASM) was evaluated at 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg bw against EAC using mean survival time. After administration of the extract of M. zapota, viable E...

Ethanol extract of the stem bark of Streblus asper Lour was considered for qualitative assessment for its secondary metabolites content like alkaloids, glycosides, sterols and others. Bark extract revealed anticarcenogenic i.e. antimitotic, cytotoxic and antitumor activities. Results of different anticarcenogenic activities of the bark extract were discussed in relation to its secondary metabol...

We investigated the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of a 70% v/v ethanol extract of the stem bark of Antrocaryon micraster on murine models of carrageenan-induced pleurisy and paw oedema. Rat pleural fluid was analysed for volume, protein content, and leucocytes, while lung histology was assessed for damage. Lung tissue homogenates were assayed for glutathione (GSH), superoxide dismut...

BACKGROUND African trypanosomosis is the disease caused by extracellular protozoan parasites of the genus Trypanosoma transmitted by tsetse flies. The current study has evaluated the trypanocidal activity of Commiphora swynnertonii extracts on Trypanosoma congolense. METHODS The effect of ethanolic stem bark and resinous extracts on motility of T. congolense was evaluated by in vitro study at...

The present is an attempt to evaluate the antispermatogenic activity of methanol extract of Nyctanthes arbortristis stem bark in male albino rats. Methanol extract of N. arbortristis stem bark was administered orally to adult male albino rats at the dose level of 100 mg/kg b.wt. for 60 days. On day 61 the rats were autopsied, the testes and accessory reproductive organs were removed and weighed...
