Patterning metallic nanoparticles on substrate surfaces is important in a number of applications. However, it remains challenging to fabricate such patterned nanoparticles with easily controlled structural parameters, including particle sizes and densities, from simple methods. We report on a new route to directly pattern pre-formed gold nanoparticles with different diameters on block copolymer...

Fluorescence-intensity enhancement of dye molecules was investigated using silicon submicron particles as a function of the particle size. Silicon particles with a size of 500 nm gave an enhancement factor up to 180. Measurement of scattering spectra revealed that the localized electric field at the particle enhances the fluorescence intensity.

Product contamination by gas-phase nucleation within the processing environment often limits the deposition rate that can be obtained during chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of materials for microelectronics applications. A fundamental understanding of how these particles nucleate and grow may allow us to enlarge the process envelope, providing higher growth rates without particle contamination....

Porous silicon samples have been reduced in nanometric particles by a well known industrial mechanical process, the ball grinding in a planetary mill; the process has been extended to crystalline silicon for comparison purposes. The silicon nanoparticles have been studied by X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, gas porosimetry and transmission electron microscopy. We have estimated crystal...

An accurate prediction of reaction kinetics of silicon nitridation is of great importance in designing procedure of material production and controlling of reaction. The main purpose of the present study is to investigate the effect of temperature on the kinetics of reaction bonded silicon nitride (RBSN) formation. To achieve this, nitrogen diffusion in the silicon nitride layer is considered as...

A facile method of preparing stable blue-emitting silicon nanoparticles that are dispersible in common organic solvents is presented. Oxidation of yellow-emitting silicon nanoparticles with an organic monolayer grafted to their surface, using either UV irradiation in solution or heating in air, converted them to blue-emitting particles. The evolution of the PL spectrum and infrared absorption s...

The LHCb Silicon Tracker is a large-surface silicon micro-strip detector that will cover an important part of the LHCb tracking system. Its data will be used in the trigger to select high-pT daughter particles from B-meson decays, and in the offline analysis to reconstruct trajectories of charged particles in the very forward region of the detector. Readout strips of up to 38 cm in length with ...

High resistivity silicon with different concentrations of the impurities oxygen and carbon were irradiated with neutrons and charged particles. The DLTS method is used to determine the defect parameters. During irradiation of silicon with particles lattice atoms are displaced and the primary defects silicon interstitials and vacancies form the impurity defects Ci, CiCs, CiOi and V Oi. In the de...

In this research, using phenolic resin as the precursor of carbon and various amounts of ethylene glycol as a pore former, porous samples of hard carbon were synthesized. Samples were characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD) and N2 adsorption-desorption methods. Broad diffraction peaks represent the amorphous structure of samples. Moreover, the gas adsorption-desorption curves showed that the a...
