In this communication we show that the instability of samarium diiodide (SmI(2)) in acetonitrile is a consequence of ionization of the reductant in this solvent. Samarium triflate (Sm(OTf)(2)) is exceptionally stable in acetonitrile for periods over six months and can be used with appropriate additives to initiate a ketyl-olefin coupling reaction in high yield.

PURPOSE Many patients with metastatic bone disease have to use radiopharmaceuticals associated with chemotherapy to relieve bone pain. The aim of this study was to assess the influence of docetaxel on the biodistribution of samarium-153-EDTMP in bones and other organs of rats. METHODS Wistar male rats were randomly allocated into 2 groups of 6 rats each. The DS (docetaxel/samarium) group rece...

Herein, we describe the synthesis of new functionalized tricyclic and tetracyclic indole derivatives via samarium diiodide induced ketyl cyclizations. The intermediate samarium organyls were either protonated using different proton sources or alkylated with various electrophiles in a highly diastereoselective manner. The obtained products were subjected to further transformations leading to syn...

We preseut a model for the calculation of the static magnetic susceptibility m samarium sulphide type semicouductiug compouuds. Trie bd stores are schematically treated, as well as trie forbidden gap, accordiug to a realistic bond scheme for SmS, whereas two iouic configurations 4f~ and 4f° in their fundamental multiplets are considered: 4f°

The structure of the title compound, [Sm(2)(C(4)O(4))(3)(H(2)O)(4)](n), consists of infinite-chain structural units, built from edge-sharing samarium SmO(7)(H(2)O)(2) polyhedra and linked via bis-monodendate squarate (sq1) groups. The chains extend along [100] in a zigzag mode and are interconnected by bis-chelating squarate (sq2) ligands into layers parallel to (101). Inter-layer hydrogen bond...

Abstract. Combined radioluminescence, afterglow and thermoluminescence experiments on single-crystal samples of co-doped CsI:Tl,Sm suggest that deeper samarium electron traps scavenge electrons from shallower thallium traps and that electrons subsequently released by samarium recombine non-radiatively with holes trapped as VKA(Tl ) centers, thus providing a mechanism for suppression of trapped-...

Experiments on co-doped CsI:Tl,Sm suggest that samarium electron traps scavenge electrons from thallium traps and that electrons subsequently released by samarium recombine non-radiatively with trapped holes, thus suppressing afterglow. These experiments support the inference that electrons tunnel freely between samarium ions and are trapped preferentially as substitutional Sm + near VKA(Tl + )...

A series of γ-oxo esters suitably substituted with various styrene subunits was subjected to samarium diiodide-induced 8-endo-trig cyclizations. Efficacy, regioselectivity and stereoselectivity of these reactions via samarium ketyls strongly depend on the substitution pattern of the attacked alkene moiety. The stereoselectivity of the protonation of the intermediate samariumorganyl is also infl...

This paper reviews the recent advances in the synthesis of catabolically stable sugar mimetics, C-oligosaccharides. These compounds are synthetic analogs of the naturally occurring O-oligosaccharides, in which the interglycosidic oxygen has been replaced by a methylene group. This review is organized in terms of chemistry used to assemble C-oligosaccarides under the sub-headings: anionic approa...

Samarium-neodymium data for nine granitic and tonalite gneisses occurring as remnants within the Singhbhum granite batholith in eastern India define an isochron of age 3775 +/- 89 x 10(6) years with an initial (143)Nd/(144)Nd ratio of 0.50798 +/- 0.00007. This age contrasts with the rubidium-strontium age of 3200 x 10(6) years for the same suite of rocks. On the basis of the new samarium-neodyn...
