A new saccharides sensor based on the TTF-anthracene dyad with two boronic acid (2) groups was designed and synthesized. This new saccharides sensor shows selectivity towards D-glucose while its analogue with one boronic acid group (1) was reported to bind D-Fructose selectively. Moreover, reaction of compound 2 with uridine induced even larger fluorescence enhancement under the same condition.
The layered transition-metal oxide HNbMoO(6) is demonstrated to exhibit remarkable catalytic performance for the hydrolysis of saccharides such as sucrose, cellobiose, starch, and cellulose, attributable to water tolerance and the facile accessibility of saccharides into the strong acidic interlayer gallery of the solid.
It is estimated that approximately 4x10 tons of carbohydrates are biosynthesized each year on earth by plants and photosynthesizing bacteria. The majority of these carbohydrates are produced as polysaccharides. Polysaccharides are macromolecules consisting of a large number of monosaccharide residues. They are sometimes also called glycans. (The term 'glycan' is also used for the saccharide com...
Saccharides - a versatile class of biologically important molecules - are involved in a variety of physiological and pathological processes, but their detection and quantification is challenging. Herein, surface plasmon resonance and self-assembled monolayers on gold generated from bis-boronic acid bearing a thioctic acid moiety, whose intramolecular distance between the boronic acid moieties i...
Many food materials exist in a disordered amorphous solid state due to processing. Therefore, understanding the concept of amorphous state, its important phase transition (i.e., glass transition), and the related phenomena (e.g., enthalpy relaxation) is important to food scientists. Food saccharides, including mono-, di-, oligo-, and polysaccharides, are among the most important major component...
A novel type of N-glycosidic linkage, asparaginyl glucose, occurs in the cell surface glycoprotein of halobacteria (Wieland, F., Heitzer, R., and Schaefer, W. (1983) Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U.S.A. 80, 5470-5474). Sulfated oligosaccharides containing glucuronic acids are attached to the polypeptide chain via this linkage. Here we describe the isolation and chemical characterization of lipid-linke...
This review addresses the design and synthesis of synthetic glycopolymers. Glycopolymers with pendant saccharides exhibit high affinities for proteins owing to their multivalency. Glycopolymers have molecular recognition abilities and amphiphilicity and can be applied as biomaterials and in bioassays. Most synthetic glycopolymers are prepared from polymerizable saccharide derivatives, and the r...
