We carried out ab initio molecular dynamic simulations in order to determine the free energy surfaces of two selected reactions including solvents, namely a rearrangement of a ruthenium oxoester in water and a carbon dioxide addition to a palladium complex in carbon dioxide. For the latter reaction we also investigated the gas phase reaction in order to take solvent effects into account. We use...
We introduce a facile approach to use ruthenium dioxide (RuO2) and ruthenium (Ru) nanostructures as effective counter electrodes instead of using platinum (Pt) for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). RuO2 and Ru nanostructure layers on the FTO glass can be readily prepared by a simple annealing process followed by the spin coating process of the mixture solution containing amorphous RuO2·xH2O p...
Heating of a ruthenium surface on which carbon monoxide and atomic oxygen are coadsorbed leads exclusively to desorption of carbon monoxide. In contrast, excitation with femtosecond infrared laser pulses enables also the formation of carbon dioxide. The desorption is caused by coupling of the adsorbate to the phonon bath of the ruthenium substrate, whereas the oxidation reaction is initiated by...
An investigation into the chemiluminescence of fourteen organic acids and tris(2,2'-bipyridyl)ruthenium(II) was undertaken. Particular emphasis was placed upon the method of production of the reagent, tris(2,2'-bipyridyl)ruthenium(III), with cerium(IV) sulfate, potassium permanganate, lead dioxide and electrochemical generation. Analytically useful chemiluminescence was observed when Ce(IV) or ...
Among platinoid fission products, ruthenium is a key element during the vitrification of high-level waste because it poorly soluble in glass matrix. It occurs mainly as RuO 2 particles and sometimes Ru 0 melt final cooled glass. Because physical properties are very different from those glass, change such rheology, thermal conductivity electrical conductivity. In addition, even more distinct pro...
Novel ruthenium multi carboxylic complexes (RMCCs) have been synthesized by using ruthenium nitrosyl nitrate, 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylic acid (H4btec) and 4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline (BPhen) as photosensitizers for titanium dioxide semiconductor solar cells. The complexes were characterized by (1)H-NMR, FT-IR, UV-Vis, ICP and CHN analyses. The reaction details and features were then de...
Pre-synthesized ruthenium dioxide nanoparticulates (RuO(2) NPs) with low level of aggregation were well dispersed in mesoporous silica SBA-15. As a catalyst for water oxidation, the supported RuO(2) NPs exhibit excellent catalytic activity and recyclability. The initial turnover frequency (TOF) is to date the highest among comparable RuO(2) catalysts.
cis-[Ru(2,9-Me(2)phen)(2)(OH(2))(2)](2+) reacts readily with chlorite at room temperature at pH 4.9 and 6.8. The ruthenium(II) complex can catalyze the disproportionation of chlorite to chlorate and chloride, the oxidation of chlorite to chlorine dioxide, as well as the oxidation of alcohols by chlorite.
