Accurate estimation of motion from time-varying imagery has been a popular problem in vision studies, This information can be used in segmentation, 3D motion and shape recovery, target tracking, and other problems in scene analysis and interpretation. We have presented a dynamic image model for estimating image motion from image sequences, and have shown how the solution can be obtained from a ...

We describe a robust technique for detecting nonstationary periodic motion from a moving and static camera. We also describe a robust technique for discriminating motion symmetries (periodic motion classification), which we apply to classifying running humans (bipeds) and canines (quadrupeds). The system has been implemented to run in real-time (30 Hz) on standard PC workstations.

This paper aims to develop a simple algorithm for determining the direction of ego-motion of a monocular observer in a static environment. Rather than returning a single direction the algorithm returns a set of motion directions known to contain the true direct tion. Translational motion can be arbitrary. The algorithm is based on one invented by Horn and Weldon [1]. It uses only normal compone...

We present an efficient and geometrically intuitive algorithm to reliably interpret the image velocities of moving objects in 3D. It is well known that under weak perspective the image motion of points on a plane can be characterised by an affine transformation. We show that the relative image motion of a nearby noncoplanar point and its projection on the plane is equivalent to motion parallax ...

In this paper we address the problem of predicting human body configurations and appearance for the task of humanmotion tracking in video. Unlike many previous approaches that relied on simplified body models, we are able to use detailed models of body shape. Having rendered the body model onto the current video frame, we make use of the optical flow information to propagate the body configurat...

This paper presents a novel possible solution for people detection and estimation of their 3D position in challenging shared environments. Addressing safety critical applications in industrial environments, we make the basic assumption that people wear reflective vests. In order to detect these vests and to discriminate them from other reflective material, we propose an approach based on a sing...
