GR can be interpreted as a theory of evolving 3-geometries. A recent such formulation, the 3-space approach of Barbour, Foster and Ó Murchadha, also permits the construction of a limited number of other theories of evolving 3-geometries, including conformal gravity and strong gravity. In this paper, we use the 3-space approach to construct a 1-parameter family of theories which generalize stron...

the foundation of most intellectual discourse is western-centric to the exclusion of other views. this includes ideal patterns of social interaction, preference for aesthetic, accepted norms and values, and the concepts of dignity, respectability, morality and ethics. such a position is culturally myopic. western cultural influence colors all of them including moral precepts. the assumption is ...

C[E] := {a : (an)n∈N is a Cauchy sequence in (E, d)} . You should think of C[E] as a new space where each point a ∈ C[E] is a Cauchy sequence a = (an)n∈N from (E, d). Note that for each x ∈ E, we can define x ∈ C[E] by letting xn = x for all n ∈ N. This gives us a way to think of C[E] as containing our original space E, which we will make more precise in Section 3. For a, b ∈ C[E] we define D(a...

We present a streamlined axiom system of special relativity in first-order logic. From this axiom system we “derive” an axiom system of general relativity in two natural steps. We will also see how the axioms of special relativity transform into those of general relativity. This way we hope to make general relativity more accessible for the non-specialist.

Scale invariant but non-conformal field theories are forbidden in (1 + 1) dimension, and so should be the corresponding holographic dual gravity theories. We conjecture that such scale invariant but non-conformal field configurations do not exist in the string/M-theory. We provide a proof of this conjecture in the classical supergravity limit. Our proof does also apply in higher dimensional sca...

In this note we continue the analysis of the pore-scale model for crystal dissolution and precipitation in porous media proposed in [C. J. van Duijn and I. S. Pop, Crystal dissolution and precipitation in porous media: pore scale analysis, J. Reine Angew. Math. 577 (2004), 171–211]. There the existence of weak solutions was shown. We prove an L1-contraction property of the pore-scale model. As ...

the only justification for the einstein velocity addition law appeared to be its empirical adequacy, so that the intrinsic beauty and harmony in einstein addition remained for a long time a mystery to be conquered. accordingly, the aim of this expository article is to present (i) the einstein relativistic vector addition, (ii) the resulting einstein scalar multiplication, (iii) the einstein rel...
