in this article, dynamics of the cerebrospinal fluid (csf) was studied, using computational fluid dynamics. using mri images of two special cases, a 2-dimensional model of the ventricular system was made. csf velocity and pressure distribution in ventricular system have high importance since the flow pattern of this liquid has an important effect on intracranial pressure, i.e., icp, which has a...

Pulsatile tinnitus synchronous with heartbeat is rare and normally has vascular origin: arterial (malformation, arterial anatomical variation) or venous (aberrant jugular bulb, glomus tumors, tympanic glomus tumor). Early etiology identification is essential for appropriate treatment to be established. Magnetic angioresonance makes the vascular identification possible and precise. We report a c...

We present an unusual case of subjective right-sided pulsatile tinnitus that resolved spontaneously within a few weeks after diagnostic superselective angiography. The possibility of dural arteriovenous fistula should be kept in mind even in subjective tinnitus. Conventional angiography may be the only modality that shows the abnormality.

OBJECTIVE To characterize the association between arterial blood pressure (ABP) and intracranial pressure (ICP) in idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) patients, and its impact on outcome of shunt surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS We analyzed all 35 iNPH patients whose ABP and ICP were recorded simultaneously during 6 years (2002-2007). The static and pulsatile pressures were averaged...

BACKGROUND Decellularized animal organs have been used as scaffolds for tissue engineering. To make a properly functioning scaffolds, the extracellular matrix (ECM) components must be preserved after decellularization. Because pulsatile flow is known to be beneficial for tissue perfusion, pulsatile perfusion of a detergent might decrease the exposure time of the tissues to the detergent used fo...

AIMS In recent years, non-pulsatile assist devices have been increasingly used for long-term circulatory support. However, it remains to be established whether pulsatile and non-pulsatile systems can ensure a similarly low rate of complications for extended periods of time in elderly patients. METHODS AND RESULTS Of 174 patients implanted between June 1991 and January 2009 [mean age: 65 +/- 3...

OBJECTIVE With a high-frequency percussive ventilator and a mechanical lung model, to measure tidal volume (V(T)), pulsatile pressure amplitude (difference between peak and nadir pulsatile pressure [DeltaP];), and mean airway pressure (P (aw)) at various pulsatile frequencies, pulsatile inspiratory-expiratory ratios (I:E(p)), and pressures (measured at the interface between the pulse-generator ...

Multiple studies have evaluated the efficacy of pulsatile flow during cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) showing controversial results. Suggested benefits to pulsatile perfusion include reducing the systemic inflammatory response syndrome associated with bypass, decreased need for inotropic support, shortened hospital stay, and superior organ preservation. This study aims to compare prior studies to ...

Modern drug delivery systems have been promoted to a unique notion of chronopharmacology, i.e., the ability provide medicament patient in staggered profile, as discipline chronobiology has advanced. The main disadvantage developing such system that fits circadian cycle is lack accurate technology (Pulsatile system, PDDS). Pulsatile devices are gaining popularity because they deliver medicine co...

Pulse-synchronous tinnitus suggests a vascular etiology and is deemed rare by the otologic literature. During the period 1978-1985 we evaluated 20 patients with the sole or initial complaint of pulsatile tinnitus. Fourteen patients had objective pulsatile tinnitus, perceived by the patient and the examiner alike, and 6 had subjective pulsatile tinnitus, perceived by the patient only. Angiograph...
