Methylcyclohexane (MCH)-toluene (TOL) chemical hydride cycles as hydrogen carrier systems are successful with the selective dehydrogenation of MCH to TOL, which has been achieved only using precious Pt-based catalysts. Herein, we report improved selectivity using non-precious metal nickel-based bimetallic catalysts, where the second metal occupies the unselective step sites.

Precious Plate, Inc. is a local electroplating company that uses a variety of metals during its processes. Post-deposition, the aqueous phase used is designated for disposal, which poses problems regarding the metal content of the waste stream. First, EPA regulations mandate that metals be kept below specific levels. Even at levels capable of meeting EPA limits, the loss of metals within their ...

The H(2)-NO(3)(-) electrochemical cell using nitrate reduction on a non-precious cathode catalyst shows much improved efficiency despite ∼75% reduction of Pt metal loading as compared to typical PEMFCs using typical ORR on precious catalysts.

A new non-precious metal oxygen reduction catalyst was developed via heat treatment of in situ polymerized polyaniline onto TiO(2) particles in the presence of Fe species. The TiO(2) provides for improved performance relative to a carbon black-based catalyst and, at a high catalyst loading, allows for reducing the performance gap between non-precious-metal catalyst and Pt/C to ca. 20 mV in RDE ...

Replacement of precious platinum with efficient and low-cost catalysts for electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution at low overpotentials holds tremendous promise for clean energy devices. Here we report a novel type of robust cobalt-nitrogen/carbon catalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) that is prepared by the pyrolysis of cobalt-N4 macrocycles or cobalt/o-phenylenediamine composites an...

Recent advances in digestion methods used in the analysis of precious metal samples by spectrometric techniques are reviewed. The applicability of a fire assay, a wet acid treatment, chlorination and alkaline oxidizing fusion to a quantitative recovery of metals from various materials is discussed. Data on the precious metal contents obtained by using particular digestion methods as well as UV-...

The ‘intelligent catalyst’ concept, involving cyclical movement of precious metal atoms in and out of a perovskite oxide lattice, was proposed by Nishihata et al. in 2002, and the precious metal atom (Pd) was then believed to occupy the B site in the perovskite (LaFeO3) lattice, based on X-ray anomalous diffraction measurements [1]. Since then, B site occupancy has generally been assumed for al...
