We prove more special cases of the Fontaine-Mazur conjecture regarding p-adic Galois representations unramified at p, and we present evidence for and consequences of a generalization of it.

From Biblical days, the occurrence of six toes instead of five, called polydactyly, has been known. Of late, there have been some individual case reports from USA and Italy. Moreover, a group formed from several countries has dealt competently with genetic studies of 19 preaxial polydactyly families. Therefore, we report a case from Nigeria.

BACKGROUND Polydactyly represents a heterogeneous group of congenital hand and foot anomalies with variable clinical features and diverse etiology. Preaxial polydactyly type I (PPD1) is the most frequent form of preaxial polydactyly. The etiology of sporadic PPD1 remains largely unknown and the relative contribution of genetic and environmental factors is not clearly defined. The primary goals ...

RATIONALE Heptadactylia is a rare congenital disorder from the polydactyly family. Polydactyly is generally classified into 3 major groups: preaxial (medial ray), postaxial (lateral ray), and central polydactyly. Most common cases are related to preaxial or postaxial polydactyly. The rarity of central polydactyly can be explained in 3 ways. First, central polydactyly with duplication appearing ...

We study the effect of noise recycling on nonequilibrium escape dynamics in a bistable system. For small noise, the non-Markovian problem is reduced to a two-state model with the master equation depending on not only the current state but also the earlier state, based on which we are able to derive the analytical formulas for the switching rate, the autocorrelation function, and the power spect...

Two sibs are described, the first of whom presented the classic Meckel syndrome triad of encephalocele, postaxial polydactyly, and characteristic renal cystic changes. The second sib had none of these abnormalities, but did show urethral atresia and preaxial polydactyly, two features previously described in some patients with Meckel syndrome. The two cases illustrate both the wide phenotypic sp...

Surgery for thumb polydactyly is a commonly performed orthopaedic procedure in Asia Pacific region. Despite extensive publications on topical dressing methods and dressing materials in paediatric wounds, there is no single design that affords a secure and yet comfortable post-operative wound dressing for thumb polydactyly. We have devised a new dressing method, which can easily be fabricated fo...

Polydactyly of the hand is a difficult problem and poses a unique challenge for the hand surgeon. The embryology of limb development is complex, leading to a host of different phenotypes of polydactyly. Polydactyly can occur in any digit and is described as preaxial, postaxial, and central, based on location. Classification systems exist for each of these locations, which guide treatment option...
