BACKGROUND To date, no surgical technique to treat posterolateral knee instability anatomically reconstructs the 3 major static stabilizing structures of the posterolateral knee: the fibular collateral ligament, the popliteus tendon, and the popliteofibular ligament. HYPOTHESIS Static varus and external rotatory stability would be restored to the reconstructed knee with a posterolateral knee ...

PURPOSE In radical prostatectomy (RP) procedures, sparing the neurovascular bundles adjacent to the posterolateral aspect of the prostatic fascia has often been suggested as a possible risk factor for positive surgical margins. Here we aimed to quantify the probability of extracapsular extension (ECE) at the posterolateral side of the prostate to aid in nerve-sparing decision making. MATERIAL...

BACKGROUND In patients who have difficulty sitting, thoracentesis is attempted in a supine position via lateral approach. Recently, a new table has been designed for supine thoracentesis. This table has gaps that allow access to the posterolateral and posterior hemithorax. OBJECTIVES To compare important safety-related parameters between lateral, posterolateral, and posterior approaches in su...

The structures in the posterolateral corner of the knee, which stabilize the joint, are often involved in injuries to the posterior cruciate ligament. Familiar structures include the anterior cruciate ligament, posterior cruciate ligament, tibial collateral ligament, and menisci. Less familiar are the structures of the posterolateral corner, the most important of which are the fibular collatera...

This study aimed to investigate the surgical techniques and the clinical efficacy of a modified Frosch approach in the treatment of posterolateral tibial plateau fractures. The standard Frosch approach was performed on 5 fresh-frozen cadavers. The mean bony surface area was measured upon adequate exposure of the proximal tibial cortex. Lateral proximal tibial plate and posterolateral T-plates w...

BACKGROUND Chronic posterolateral knee injuries often result in substantial patient morbidity and functional instability. The clinical stability and functional outcomes following anatomic reconstructions in patients with a chronic posterolateral knee injury have not been determined, to our knowledge. METHODS A two-center outcomes study of sixty-four patients with grade-3 chronic posterolatera...

BACKGROUND The purpose of this article was to evaluate the risks and benefits of non-operative treatment versus surgical excision of a fabella causing posterolateral knee pain. We performed a systematic review of literature and also present two case reports.Twelve publications were found in a PubMed literature review searching the word "fabella syndrome". Non-operative treatment and surgical ex...

RPL is the IETF candidate standard for IPv6 routing in low-power wireless sensor networks. We present the first experimental results of RPL which we have obtained with our ContikiRPL implementation. Our results show that Tmote Sky motes running IPv6 with RPL routing have a battery lifetime of years, while delivering 0.6 packets per second to a sink node.

BACKGROUND Nonoperative treatment of posterolateral knee injuries tends to yield poor results. In patients with chronic posterolateral knee injuries, failure to correct genu varus alignment will often result in failure of the posterolateral knee repair or reconstruction. PURPOSE To prospectively assess the functional outcomes of patients with combined grade 3 posterolateral instability and ge...
