The peroxy radical chemical amplification (PERCA) method is combined with cavity ringdown spectroscopy(CRDS) to detect peroxy radicals (HO2 and RO2). In PERCA, HO2 and RO2 are first converted to NO2 via reactions with NO, and the OH and RO coproducts are recycled back to HO2 in subsequent reactions with CO and O2; the chain reactions of HO2 are repeated and amplify the level of NO2. The amplifi...

the reaction of ch3o2 radicals with acetaldehyde on the solid surface of nh4no3 has been studied in a flow capillary reactor at low pressure and room temperature. the experiments were performed using epr spectrometer combined with the kinetic method of radicals freezing. peroxy radicals revealed an oscillation complex behavior during the process regarding to the phenomenon of radicals multiplic...

Peroxy radical (HO2+6RO2) measurements, using the PEroxy Radical Chemical Amplification (PERCA) technique at the North Atlantic Marine Boundary Layer EXperiment (NAMBLEX) at Mace Head in summer 2002, are presented and put into the context of marine, boundarylayer chemistry. A suite of other chemical parameters (NO, NO2, NO3, CO, CH4, O3, VOCs, peroxides), photolysis frequencies and meteorologic...

Organic peroxy radicals are important intermediates in the atmospheric photooxidation of hydrocarbons. Laboratory studies indicate that these radicals react among themselves (permutation reactions) at rates which should compete with those for reaction with HO 2 and NO x under some atmospheric conditions. Using the available laboratory data, we have developed a simplified method of representing ...

Cavity ringdown spectra of the A-X electronic transition of all eight isomers of the pentyl peroxy radical are reported. Using the corresponding assignments from previously studied smaller alkyl peroxy radicals, assignments of origin bands are made for the pentyl peroxy isomers including some conformer-specific assignments for bands of a given isomer. Ab initio calculations also were performed ...

Peroxy radicals form a class of important intermediates in oxidation chemistry. In recent years much effort has been put into the study of the kinetics of peroxy radicals largely via monitoring their broad and structureless A A UV absorption transition. The A A electronic transition of the peroxies, residing in the near-IR region, has also been observed, but due to the relative inaccessibility ...

Organic peroxy radicals (often abbreviated RO(2)) play a central role in the chemistry of the Earth's lower atmosphere. Formed in the atmospheric oxidation of essentially every organic species emitted, their chemistry is part of the radical cycles that control the oxidative capacity of the atmosphere and lead to the formation of ozone, organic nitrates, organic acids, particulate matter and oth...

REFEREE 1 The manuscript “Missing peroxy radical sources within a rural forest canopy” by Wolfe et al 2014 presents a solid and unique set of measurements within a Ponderosa Pine forest. The main focus of this paper is the observation and analysis of peroxy radicals. Therefore various gas chemical measurements were utilized to run a box model and compare the modeled diel cycle to the observatio...

The free-radical chemistry of sulfite oxidation is reviewed. Chemical transformations of organic and biological molecules induced by sulfite oxidation are summarized. The kinetics of the free-radical oxidations of sulfite are discussed, as are the kinetics of the reactions of the sulfite-derived radicals SO3 and the peroxy derivative SO5 with organic compounds.
