Selective separation of lead ions (Pb(2+)) from aqueous solutions containing multiple divalent metal ions (Pb(2+), Cu(2+), Cd(2+), Zn(2+), Mn(2+), Co(2+), and Ni(2+)) was investigated using liquid-liquid extraction. N,N-Dioctyldiglycol amic acid (DODGAA) enabled quantitative extraction and efficient separation of Pb(2+) from the metal ion mixture under mildly acidic conditions. Compared with ...

The Pb region is characterised by the existence of collective octupole states. Here we populated such states in Pb + Pb deep-inelastic reactions. γ-ray angular distribution measurements were used to infer the octupole character of several E3 transitions. The octupole character of the 2318 keV 17− → 14 in Pb, 2485 keV 19/2− → 13/2 in Pb, 2419 keV 15/2− → 9/2 in Pb and 2465 keV 17/2 → 11/2− in Tl...

The title compound, [Pb(2)(C(2)H(3)O(2))(4)(C(8)H(10)O(2))](n), has a polymeric structure, with acetatolead(II) chains and 2,5-dimethyl-benzene-1,4-diol mol-ecules forming bridges between two Pb(II) ions from neighbouring chains. Each Pb(II) centre is surrounded by eight O atoms; four belong to bidentate acetate ions, three to neighbouring bridging acetate groups and one to the 2,5-dimethyl-ben...

Lead (Pb(2+)) exposure is known to affect presynaptic neurotransmitter release in both in vivo and cell culture models. However, the precise mechanism by which Pb(2+) impairs neurotransmitter release remains unknown. In the current study, we show that Pb(2+) exposure during synaptogenesis in cultured hippocampal neurons produces the loss of synaptophysin (Syn) and synaptobrevin (Syb), two prote...

1:1 and 1:2 lead(II) complexes with 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline (Dmphen), {[Pb(Dmphen)(NO3)n] and [Pb(Dmphen)2(ClO4)2]} have been synthesized and characterized by CHN elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and 207Pb NMR spectroscopy. The structure of these complexes was confirmed by X-ray crystallography. The single crystal X-ray data of [Pb(Dmphen)(NO3)n] show the complex to be polymeric...

The asymmetric unit of the title compound, {[Pb(C(9)H(6)NO)(2)]·0.5C(3)H(7)NO}(n), comprises Pb(quinolate)(2) and half a dimethyl-formamide mol-ecule (which is disordered about a centre of inversion). The quinolate ligands N,O-chelate to a Pb(II) ion and simultaneously bridge a neighbouring Pb(II) ion to form a polymeric chain along [100] comprising Pb-linked Pb(2)O(2) distorted rhombi. These c...

A new fluorescent sensor based on the BODIPY fluorophore and the polyamide receptor for Pb(2+) was designed and synthesized. The sensor is highly selective for Pb(2+) over relevant competing metal ions, and sensitive to ppb levels of Pb(2+). It features the most sensitive probe to date for Pb(2+) ions in water.

The interaction of ultrathin Pb films with Ru~0001! and Pd~111! has been studied with x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy ~XPS! and thermal desorption spectroscopy ~TDS!. XPS and TDS show that at room temperature Pb grows on Ru~0001! via a Stranski-Krastanov mechanism, i.e., after completion of the first adlayer of Pb on Ru~0001!, further Pb deposition leads to the formation of three-dimensional i...

Rare examples of phosphine complexes of lead(II) are reported. The reaction of Pb(NO3)2 with Me2P(CH2)2PMe2, o-C6H4(PMe2)2 or Et2P(CH2)2PEt2 (L-L) in H2O/MeCN gave white [Pb(L-L)(NO3)2], irrespective of the ratio of reagents used. The X-ray structures of [Pb{Me2P(CH2)2PMe2}(NO3)2] and [Pb{o-C6H4(PMe2)2}(NO3)2] reveal chelating diphosphines and κ(2)-NO3(-) groups occupying one hemisphere about t...

The reaction of Pb[BF(4)](2) in H(2)O/MeCN solution with the macrocycle 18-crown-6 gave the dinuclear complex [{Pb(18-crown-6)(H(2)O)(μ(2)-BF(4))}(2)][BF(4)](2), containing two nine-coordinate lead centres, each bound to all six oxygens of a crown ligand, one water molecule and bridged by two μ(2)-BF(4) groups. In contrast, the oxa-thia crown [18]aneO(4)S(2) gave the mononuclear [Pb([18]aneO(4)...
