Over 120,000 non-native species of plants, animals and microbes have invaded the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, South Africa, India, and Brazil, and many have caused major economic losses in agriculture and forestry as well as negatively impacting ecological integrity. Some introduced species, like corn (Zea mays L.), wheat (Triticum spp.), rice (Oryza sativa L.), plantation forests,...

The Pyricularia genus includes several pathogenic fungi species that are associated with blast disease in more than 50 Poaceae plants (Ou 1985). Among these species, Pyricularia oryzae is the most important pathogen, due to its global distribution on plants from the Poaceae family. The blast disease caused by P. oryzae is responsible for severe losses in crops of high economic importance such a...

Weedy rice (Oryza spp.) is a notorious weed that invades paddy fields and hampers the rice’s production yield quality; thus, it has become major problem for farmers worldwide. comprises diverse morphology phenotypic variation; however, metabolome chemical phenotypes of weedy grains have not been explored. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate metabolite profiles diversity Malaysian rice. T...

Although the discovery of aquaporins in plants has resulted in a paradigm shift in the understanding of plant water relations, the relationship between aquaporins and drought resistance still remains elusive. From an agronomic viewpoint, upland rice is traditionally considered as showing drought avoidance. In the investigation of different morphological and physiological responses of upland ric...

The rice stink bug, Oebalus pugnax (F.), is a graminaceous feeder, and the most injurious insect pest of heading rice, Oryza sativa L., in the United States. Rice growers are aware of the economic importance of host grasses in O. pugnax abundance. However, the need for increased knowledge of host sequence relative to O. pugnax abundance is vital. Densities of O. pugnax on 15 graminaceous hosts ...

Rice (Oryza spp.) is one of the most important food crops in the world, being planted on almost 11% of the Earth’s cultivated land area over a wide number of ecosystems (Khush, 2005; Maclean et al., 2002). Two species, Oryza sativa and O. glaberrima, are cultivated while other species are wild. Human selection and environmental factors have contributed to the genetic diversity in rice, particul...

In this study, two halophilic bacterial strains isolated from saline habitats in Argentina grew in the presence of gas oil. They were identified as Halomonas spp. and Nesterenkonia sp. by 16S ribosomal RNA sequencing. Chemotaxis towards gas oil was observed in Halomonas spp. by using swimming assays.
