We propose a receiver using two optical hardlimiters (OHL’s) for optical code division multiple access (CDMA). In the receiver the likelihood ratio test is made by using the photocounts obtained by the intensities in the weighted positions of the signature sequence. Before the test, two OHL’s enable the proposed receiver to remove the effect of the multiaccess interference (MAI), without knowle...
A PCI Express (PCIe) to optical link interface (PEXOR: Pci-EXpress Optical Receiver) was developed to connect front end boards to standard PCs. The center of the PEXOR is a high performance Lattice FPGA connecting three main components together: 1) A four lane PCIe endpoint device (4*2.5 Gbits/s). 2) Four high speed optical transceivers (4*2 GBits/s, SFP [1]) as inputs for front end electronics...
Unified analytical expressions have been derived for calculating the resonant frequencies, transimpedances and equivalent input noise current densities of the four most widely used tuned optical receiver front ends built with FET’s and p-i-n diodes. A more accurate FET model has been used to improve the accuracy of the analysis. The Miller’s capacitance has been taken into account, and its impa...
The sensitivity characteristics of optical receiver frontends for high-speed data communications depend on modulation format, detector type, and specific operational constraints. A general mathematical model of the receiver sensitivity that fits to analytical as well as measured data is required to compare different receiver implementations and assess the reliability of data links under varying...
A novel RF-optical receiver architecture based on nonlinear optical modulation in a LiNbO3 microdisk modulator is presented. This is the first RF-optical receiver without high-speed electronic components for transmitted carrier links. We demonstrate receiver operation by demodulating 50 Mb/s digital data from a 8.7 GHz carrier frequency. 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
An optical receiver using a CMOS-compatible avalanche photodetector (CMOS-APD) is demonstrated. The CMOS-APD is fabricated with 0.18 μm standard CMOS technology and the optical receiver is implemented by using the CMOS-APD and a transimpedance amplifier on a board. The optical receiver can detect 6.25-Gb/s data with the help of the series inductive peaking effect.
