Information on species of parasitic helminths native to Poland is provided by the Pasozytnicze helminty Polski. Gatunki. Zywiciele. Białe Plamy. Until the middle of 2007, there were 1205 species of recorded helminths including 126 species of Monogenea, 338 of Trematoda (Digenea), 279 of Cestoda, 427 of Nematoda and 35 of Acanthocephala. They represented 32.9% of the species recorded in Europe (...

This study evaluated the parasite fauna on the gills of spotted goatfish Pseudupeneus maculatus captured in the dry and rainy seasons in the coast of the State of Pernambuco, Brazil. Eight parasite species were identified belonging to the following taxa: Monogenea (Haliotrema caraïbensis, Haliotrema caballeroi and Haliotrema golvani); Crustacea (Rocinela signata, Hamaticolax scutigerulus and Ca...

Arowana (Osteoglossum bicirrhosum) and cat fish (Hypostomus plecostomus) are two species of ornamental fishes which are mostly imported to Iran. Monogenea are plathyhelminthes which can dominantly infest the fish skin and gills with high host specificity. In this research, 35 O. bicirrhosum and 50 H. plecostomus with clinical signs were collected from different ornamental fish markets in Semnan...

The representatives of the class Monogenea are great importance in fish pathology. Dactylogyrus vastator (Nybelin 1924) (Monogenea: Dactylogyridae) is a common pathogenic monogenean parasite carp (Cyprinus carpio Linnaeus, 1758) from freshwater lakes and cyprinid ponds, worldwide. In our study, total 133 specimens cage culture system on Mladost Reservoir (N. Macedonia) were subjected to parasit...

Some taxonomic groups are less amenable to mitochondrial DNA barcoding than others. Due to the paucity of molecular information of understudied groups and the huge molecular diversity within flatworms, primer design has been hampered. Indeed, all attempts to develop universal flatworm-specific COI markers have failed so far. We demonstrate how high molecular variability and contamination proble...

Phenotypic variation results from the balance between sources of variation and counteracting regulatory mechanisms. Canalization and developmental stability are two such mechanisms, acting at two different levels of regulation. The issue of whether or not they act concurrently as a common developmental buffering capacity has been subject to debate. We used geometric morphometrics to quantify th...

Neobenedenia melleni (MacCallum, 1927) (Monogenea) is a widespread pathogen in marine teleost cultures all over the world. The present paper reports this parasite species in farmed cobia (Rachycentron canadum) in Brazil, for the first time. Some comments on preventive actions for avoiding the disease are made.

Gyrodactylus latus Bychowsky, 1933 (Monogenea, Gyrodactylidae) was found on fins of Cobitis elongatoides Bacescu et Maier, 1969 (Teleostei, Cobitidae) from tributaries of the Stobrawa River (Odra Basin, Silesia, Poland). It is new to the Polish parasite fauna; its description, measurements, and figures are presented.

In this paper, three separate instances of an association between an ectoparasite, Cyclocotyla bellones (Otto, 1821) (Monogenea: Diclidophoridae) and ectoparasitic isopods have been reported for the first time from the Aegean Sea coasts of Turkey. The isopods were all of the family Cymothoidae: Ceratothoa oestroides, C. parallela, Emetha audouini.
